My favorite feature of St Louis Lambert airport is the inexplicable translation of loudspeaker announcements into French, with exactly 0 flights arriving from France.

Almost no other policy issue matters anymore since the Supreme Court will knock any democratic administration down, so yea, my only vote is for whomever chooses a fucking pitbull AG to prosecute everyone
Turning into a single issue voter for 2028, where the issue is which Democratic candidate will vow to nominate the most rabidly partisan, vengeful and hate-filled AG you can possibly imagine

I shouldn’t be surprised but here I am, another GOP administration, with my jaw on the floor as I read the details of the proposed bill www.nytimes.com/interactive/...
A List of Nearly Everything in the Senate G.O.P. Bill, and How Much It Would Cost or Save
The legislation includes tax cuts as well as big cuts to Medicaid, food benefits and other programs, and it would add more than $3 trillion to the national debt.

It's actually really easy to compare STL to a growing city like Nashville. Both have vibrant bar and music culture, arts, universities, lower cost of living, four seasons, public infrastructure & transit, and regional job centers. Why does one grow while the other shrinks?
‘We are in trouble.’ St. Louis region’s slowing population growth spurs call for action
The East-West Gateway Council of Governments, the St. Louis region’s top planning group, is being urged to take the lead on addressing population growth.

A lot of my friends, family, colleagues don’t understand why I’m so optimistic about this situation.

When the hammer falls, those prepared to fight for this country will outnumber these assholes a few thousand to one, minimum. We’re going to crush them like bugs.
there are a lot of good people in this country

we will win

Especially if you're on the fence about it, protest today. Fascism is isolating and lonely. Its very goal is to make you feel like you're the only person unwilling to accept a cult of personality. On days like today you fully realize there are more of us than there are them. You will feel better.

It’s actually relatively easy & fast to become a journeyman in the electrical union. Problem is availability of work: if there are no jobs, you sit on unemployment for months until the list clears.

Know what solves this problem? Abundance 😎
It's telling that most of the trades that draw high wages are the ones that have very restrictive pipelines for licensing. You can't just take a training course and start working as an electrician, it's years and years of training and apprenticeships before you can make real money
This is a lesson for those trying to to flood people into the trades via tech schools. Plumbers won't get paid much if too many graduate!

the amount of hate mail I got for this piece shocked me. drivers just fucking love killing pedestrians and they do not ever want to feel bad about it for even a second www.motor1.com/features/713...
Cars Kill Pedestrians at an Alarming Rate. We Must Fix It
With 7,500 pedestrian fatalities in America every year, we must consider the safety of people outside our cars with the same attention we give to occupants.

But… that’s the point. That’s why he did it. He’s a eugenicist at heart and he does not care about sustaining lives of those he sees as inferior.
Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty.

The knee jerk reaction is to say these companies will immediately start fucking the environment again but the reality is they’ve already sunk enormous capex into reducing emissions and pollutants, and are subject to activist shareholder pressures that will keep them focused on long term decarb plans
The Environmental Protection Agency has drafted a plan to eliminate all limits on greenhouse gases from coal and gas-fired power plants in the U.S., according to internal agency documents reviewed by The New York Times.

This is a great thread and perfectly summarizes why voters continue to reward republicans despite seeing their material conditions deteriorate under their leadership!
The political theory behind IRA was roughly as follows: We have lost control of the information landscape and can no longer win rhetorical or purely political battles; however, if we make substantive policy progress that directly touches voters' lives, they will notice and reward us.

Screwing over the gays and people of color for the confederate flag crowd, only to realize that crowd never shops at Target anyway. Brilliant corporate strategy guys.
Target is battling a fast-changing trade policy. But it’s also become a focus for angst over corporate rollbacks of diversity efforts.

The retail chain’s net sales slumped 2.8 percent to $23.8 billion in the first quarter, with foot traffic and sales declining, the company said.
Target sees tariffs and backlash over DEI changes hitting its bottom line
Target now expects a “low single-digit [percentage] decline” in sales for the fiscal year; it previously forecast 1 percent growth.

A good start, but targeting douchebags on ATVs is easy. We need to see enforcement of basic driving laws like, idk, stopping at red lights and stop signs?!
