We should have a 2nd wave of mostly-compulsory primary education that happens somewhere in your 30's or 40's.

You are going to relearn history and reread classics, this time with the benefit of far more worldliness, and you'll interact with a broad slice of your community.

this dumb shit is what i mean when i say this is a purely aesthetic “politics.” yeah man, why can’t we have a fusion of cosmopolitan social democracy and revanchist hierarchies of wealth and privilege? tough question.
Matt Stoller: “..Trump & Mamdani defeated establishment in their own way, representing hunger of voters on the right & left who want something different. If those sides cd come together.. that would be a sea change in how we organize our political economy”.

Monopoly Round-Up: Why the Establishment Freaked Out Over a Mamdani-Trump Press Conference
Meta wins its antitrust case, there are now two fire truck antitrust claims, the stock market got wobbly, and Larry Summers was exiled from the establishment, at least for now.

Everybody talks as if this is impossible, but all Democrats need is the will to power. Which is to say, the will to admit DC as 250 states so we can rewrite the constitution at will
Abolish the Senate. I am absolutely dead serious.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

right. precisely. the right as presented in the media is not even the right as it presents itself, but rather "the right as it would be fair to represent them if they were worth debating."

It is unfortunate to speak ill of a man on the occasion of his death, and I do not do so cavalierly or idly. But how much more unfortunate to live a life that calls forth such truthful condemnation.

"Harvard can't use race as a factor in admissions, but ICE can use race as a factor in detentions" is a retrenchment essentially to a pre-Civil War understanding of the Constitution. It's vanishingly few steps removed from "Latinos have no rights which the white man is bound to respect."

If you think that due process only applies to citizens then ask yourself what you would do if someone accused you of being a non citizen. Either we all have due process or no one does. The Constitution affords the former. SCOTUS has unleashed the latter.

admit every block in Washington DC as its own state
First priorities of the 2029 trifecta:
1. Filibuster abolition
2. SCOTUS expansion and reform
3. DC + PR statehood

Go from there.

the reason it was extraordinarily important to persecute Trump and his sycophants under the Biden Administration is that it would have reduced Trump's support among Trump supporters. it is precisely his impunity which makes him popular among authoritarian submissives.

You can just create a new district court that only has jurisdiction over the uninhabited bits of US Minor Outlying Islands and transfer them all over. This stuff is super flexible.
I just want to remind everyone that impeachment (which is effectively impossible in this environment because of the super-majority requirement for conviction) is NOT the only way to remove a federal judge, contrary to popular belief.

The “good behaviour” clause has never been used but it’s there.
Bove is going to be the new Clarence Thomas, but worse (until he gets elevated): A petulant, vindictive asshole who is going to use the bench to make up for his moral emptiness and deep sense of inadequacy

The most infuriating thing about the whole "mental acuity" stuff isn't the rank double standard, it's that even if the absolute worst case scenario with Biden were true, he would still be a better president than Trump, an out-and-out fascist.

If we're ever going to have a chance of rebuilding from this mess, the left-right axis is far less important than the fight-don't fight axis. Moderates who are willing to do whatever it takes to recover from Trumpism are far more valuable to the left than "leftists" who just care about their seats.
tester was far to the right of my preferences and i have never said a negative word about him. so is peltola. gillibrand is far to both of their left and i'll be donating to the first person who tries to primary her out of office.

the reason that i am so insistent on primaries is that the supreme court will have to be expanded and the votes will be, at best, tight, and no one in a solid blue seat should be a vote which is even vaguely in question
