The White House March 2025 Executive Order to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services poses not only an existential threat to the institution of libraries and staff, but it risks worsening the childhoods of a whole generation.

We’ve lost a pillar of the library and technology communities this week. Sadly Clifford Lynch of @cni-org.bsky.social has passed. He was a brilliant thinker, a connector across the academy, a strong advocate for libraries and science, as well as a great friend to so many. We will miss you Cliff!

Congratulations to Judge Susan Crawford on her victory, and to the people of Wisconsin for electing a judge who believes in the rule of law and protecting our freedoms.

This powerful conversation about covering inspired thought & reflection. The story about the addition of "Chief Justice" to his "Earl Warren Professor of Constitutional Law" professorship was profound. It honors both Warren's journey of change & growth and Yoshino's commitment to civil rights.
We’ve all had moments when we’ve downplayed some part of our identity to fit in with the world around us. This week, we talk to Kenji Yoshino about the phenomenon of “covering” and how it affects us.

Jevin West (@jevinwest.bsky.social) and I have spent the last eight months developing the course on large language models (LLMs) that we think every college freshman needs to take.

If this happens - and if Musk et al get control of BLS - then all economic bets are off.

I can’t say it any more plainly than that.
NEWS: Sources tell me that DOGE is setting its sights on the Department of Labor next. DOL workers have been ordered to give DOGE access to whatever they ask for—or risk termination.

“We’re supposed to stop everything we’re doing and do whatever the DOGE kids ask… It feels dirty and illegal.”

"The fact that I'm putting my health first doesn't mean...I'm not dedicated to my job or a 'team player.' If I'm dead or further disabled, I can't help anyone." Thank you for sharing so brutally & eloquently the crushing mental load of disability. (V. concerned about your 4hrs @ the reference desk.)
Just published a post about the mental load of working as a disabled person in an ableist workplace, the calculus that goes into my work-related boundaries (re: staying healthy), & the guilt and shame I, a recovering workaholic, feel re: those boundaries. meredithfarkas.substack.com/p/the-crushi...
