Librarian (she/her) 🦋🦉🏃‍♀️🌈🧘🌲
Open science + the humanities. Seattle by way of Milwaukee.
I can see the impetus, but worry about the Matthew effect (benefitting the companies that can afford to pay).

They're acquiring Vimeo as well.

That definitely comes across in your writing. Curious if your university formally recognizes what in the U.S. is called "service" because your contributions to learning, knowledge, and the library/information science profession are off the charts.

I just saw @aarontay.bsky.social 's "AI powered library search" article reposted by Heather Cox Richardson of all people. Now that's reach!!!

The Atlantic is an even greater powerhouse with @nancyayoussef.bsky.social on the team. Congrats.

Grateful for this analysis! Some disappointing journal abstract numbers. Likely for monetization, but SAGE goes open while T&F is closed, Wiley & OUP open but IEEE & ACS closed. Is SN's 34% OA? Authors/funders who pay OA fees should require deposit of their abstracts -- so important for discovery.

Oh yeah sure enough, is it that alarmist comment? Oh geez. It was basically making the author's point that we need to be more fully engaged.

The piece & responses seemed pretty tame to me, esp for SK. But I'm troubled that some make you feel unwelcomed. Much respect & thanks to you & others who are curious, share knowledge gained from substantial intellectual labor, & move our profession forward. And god we need better IR solutions :).

At US research universities, if a librarian got a research synthesis question outside their expertise, rather than having a fit they'd just look up the specialist & confer w/ them - e.g. www.lib.umich.edu/research-and... It's a given that disciplines have different methodologies & epistemologies.

I'm at a loss for words, AJ. This should be published in every national and local newspaper in the U.S.

I and many others are so grateful for your analysis and the thousands of hours you devote to elevating and educating our profession. If you feel dread, that's not good.

Oh no no no.
