any sufficiently advanced skill is magic

magic happens when we develop any skill so deeply that it creates a sense of wonder. some magic develops intuitively, some through hard work. magic includes all of the talents we cannot explain and all of the deep knowledge we have nurtured into wisdom.

JESUS: This bread... is my body. Go on, take it, pass it around. This wine... is my blood. These grapes are my eyeballs

JUDAS: I don't think you're supposed to tell us it's grapes. I think you just let us feel it--

JESUS: Shut up dude. Now this cold spaghetti... is my guts

maybe my favorite anarchist quote is Malatesta’s “Not whether we accomplish anarchism today, tomorrow, or within ten centuries, but that we walk towards anarchism today, tomorrow, and always.”

this was hard to write, and reading again brings another flood of grief. i don't think of my past self as "dead" but the grief is the same

and some of the grief is for my new self, who never got to be a girl or a young woman
he was messy and clever and loved to tell stories and was too often angry. i don’t think or talk about him very much. old photos are strange, like looking at somebody i used to know
How do you explain what happened to your past self once you transitioned?

Are they dead? Alive within you? Never alive in the first place? Or something else entirely?

To everyone who transitions later in life, thank you.

You make the world feel possible.

You show that there’s still time, still hope, still room to grow into yourself, no matter when it happens.

too many of my favorite movies fall into this category
for example

Diggstown (1992)
The Name of the Rose (1986)
The Big Hit (1998)

one of my guilty pleasures in the category

i figured out why this eggnog reminds me of Worcestershire sauce. apparently it's the nutmeg. there's some in the eggnog, and the jar of nutmeg in our spice cabinet has exactly the same flavor note. weird, i had no idea

being alive should be enough to secure: adequate housing (resistant to whatever inclement weather your area has), adequate food, and adequate education.

these are the inalienable rights for which every one of us should stand.
Food is not only a human right... ensuring access to basic needs and education is also an act of crime prevention that protects everyone.

we got egg nog from Costco, which has a flavor note i can only describe as “Worcestershire sauce.” i added some whiskey & cinnamon which helped at first but it’s still cutting through

pre-transition, it was "My Own Worst Enemy" by Lit or "Crazy Little Called Love" by Queen. i could probably still do the Lit song, it's in the right range, i'd just need to lighten up a bit
