In movies and tv I see a lot of people answering calls from numbers they don’t know. I know it’s a necessary plot device sometimes, but is that a thing people actually do?

This is why I think “just quietly wait for Trump to screw up” is a bad idea. Americans are incredibly susceptible to *narrative.* Trump will screw up, but Americans won’t notice unless the *story* of that screwup is told loudly every day. The truth has to be at least as loud and pushy as the lies.
“Those nasty Canadians are ripping us off and are controlled by Mexican cartels. They’re poisoning us with fentanyl and need to become the 51st state or they will pay a high price” is a belief that literally ZERO Americans had six weeks ago. It’s entirely invented from scratch.
