I like nature, science, music. Scot in France. Normally I try to take a week off social media per month.
Sad to report I have logged back into social media. I had a peaceful time without it for a couple of months.

Absolutely loved this book. kathrynmannix.com/books/with-t... I would recommend it to everyone. I'm going to buy extra copies to give away. Don't be put off thinking it will be depressing - there's a lightness of touch that keeps it readable.

The Substance didn't gross me out as much as I'd feared. Maybe I'm ready for more Cronenberg (always avoided due to this worry).

Opportunity to contribute to domestic abuse research
1 month to go for this call for views on the costs of leaving an abusive partner!

Too many people still ask, 'why doesn't she just leave' & finances are a crucial part of that answer. If you have experienced #domesticabuse or support those who have, we need to hear from you.

In my latest essay, I explore the 'bag lady' fantasy that haunts the minds of so many women ageing without children, and perhaps even more so those also without partners. And I unpack my own surprising response to meeting my own inner bag lady.

Really disappointed that this was voted through as it's deeply flawed. Hope it will be sufficiently amended before becoming law, but I have my doubts.

I wish that in documentaries they would have a box come up with the names of the species on-screen the way they do for talking heads. (Like if it's footage of a toad there's a box saying Common toad / Bufo bufo.)

this is one of my favorite custom feeds, Quiet Posters

it shows you posts from people you follow who don't post that much! so it surfaces friends' posts that might otherwise get drowned out in the Following feed (which is reverse chronological) 🤗

Late to the game, but I am loving Moby Dick. I love how each chapter is a surprise - will it be a detailed explanation of why whales are fish? a story relayed from somewhere else? continuation of the plot?

(Of course there's an In Our Time on Moby Dick. Very helpful to poor atheists like me.)

We have a properly warped perception of how much various sectors contribute to the UK economy. The fishing industry, which is constantly in the news and to whom politicians of all rosettes regularly play, adds less to GDP than Games Workshop

So a good way of making Bluesky more interesting is to explore feeds, subscribe to ones that look interesting, and remember to look at them occasionally - you can go to Settings > Following Feed Preferences and flick 'Show Posts from My Feeds' to Yes. (4/16)
