We dig snow and rain and bright sunshine.
It’s the kind of movie that starts off with a 35-ish Greer Garson dressed and made up as a fresh young deb of maybe half that age.

It’s the kind of movie that takes pride in how obvious it is that every scene, interior or exterior, is shot on a soundstage under blatantly artificial studio lighting.

Once again, it’s not too early to plan out your cooking process so thanksgiving dinner gets to the table and onto plates while the cooked food is still hot and the salads are still chilled.

Not like I’ve ever managed to do that, but it’s a goal to keep in mind.

what kind of country is this, where dangerous radicals can throw sandwiches at our brave secret masked torture police with impunity

I’m sure I’m way too American in all the ways that stereotypically irk Brits to not get on Andy Partridge’s bad side.
I asked this before over at The Old Place and the answers delighted me. So again:

Who is an artist you admire who you suspect would not like you if they met you personally?

I think Peter Dinklage is fantastic. I would absolutely get on his last nerve. He'd be looking for the door while we spoke.

I remember 30 years ago having to show ID when I wrote a check to a store—is that what Trump’s thinking?—or has he somehow gotten the idea that using a supermarket affinity card is connected to legal ID?
Trump: "It's time for Republicans to do what they have to do and that's terminate the filibuster ... we should start tonight with 'the country's open, congratulations,' then we should pass voted ID, we should pass no mail in voting ... you go to a grocery store, you have to give ID."

Somebody in this home-reno show we’re watching said of the homeowner, “He’s pretty handy,” which in this case appears to mean that he has a bunch of power tools but doesn’t know how or when to use them.

It’s the kind of movie where—in 2025—the screenwriters pull out the old “who said she was killed with a [specific weapon]” trick.

My immediate reaction to the attempted assassination of Charlie Kirk was “Oh my god, that’s awful!” and I trust and hope that everybody else feels the same.

My very MAGA brother-in-law is going on an Alaska cruise soon and he just told me that he’s a little afraid about having to spend time in Seattle. “Because of all the trouble there.”

Granted that the Cracker Barrel rebrand is pretty terrible, it’s still a big improvement over the original, which IMO is amateurishly executed and poorly composed.

If you work today and get paid for it, and then you’re allowed to leave afterwards, then you should be celebrating Juneteenth — because for a very long time here in America it was perfectly legal and constitutional and Christian not to pay workers anything or to let them ever leave.

10yo greatniece was talking about a boy in her class and I don’t know what his name is but I -think- she said Soren. Fortunately I stopped myself before I said, “You mean, like Kierkegaard?”

My husband just got hearing aids, and now every unanticipated sound is a mystery that has to be resolved. He got stuck in what-was-that mode for some time while I tried to work out what had set it off. Eventually I took a drink from my iced tea and yes, it was ice rattling in my glass.
