Now's probably a good time to finally make a pinned post. Hey there! Writing for tech is my day job, but I also draw, animate, and take photos when I'm not working. I do all four on my website.

with Marjorie Taylor Greene being kind of a whack job and magic the gathering rolling every IP it can into the game, it’s taking longer and longer to decipher which one posts about “MTG” are actually referencing lately

Enjoying this cold, rainy Sunday morning bundled up, eating a hot breakfast and drinking a big mug of tea, and contemplating this post as I wither into a tiny prune. 🫠

It is very funny that this Pope is just going to get jerseys from now on. Everyone decided that's what this Pope likes and that is it. It's like if your grandmother got you a puzzle for Christmas one year and you said you liked it so your entire extended family is like "oh that's the puzzle kid"
Spike Lee just blessed Pope Leo with a custom Knicks jersey during his visit to the Vatican, just one week after the Pope was gifted a custom Chicago Bulls one.

The feeling of joy seeing old news I missed about Tatsuyuki Tanaka working on a new animation, quickly soured by seeing Tanaka talk about using web3 bullshit to make it. 😔

Looks a bit like Yoshinori Kanada's style? Not sure if he animated or designed this one.

For #FossilFriday & in honor of @alinemghilardi.bsky.social & colleagues' fantastic discovery of a new Cretaceous pterosaur in Brazil in a dinosaur regurgitalite ("fossil vomit"), here's a diagram I made for my book 'Dinosaurs Without Bones' (2014) showing the physics of a puking brachiosaur. 🧪🦕🤮🪨

this highlights something my brothers and I independently discovered decades ago: while it can be creepy to play a major key piece in a minor key, you fully enter uncanny valley territory if you play a minor key piece in a major key
I made a joke in my main Discord server about DOOM E1M1 being in a major key and @abigbagofkeys.sickonedude.com actually made it. Jesus fucking Christ listen to this hahahaha

A lot of the quotes and comments bring up the rotoscoping, but I wonder how many of them are only looking at how the character moves, instead of the more telling giveaways like a dude with frail-looking arms and v-shaped chest in a t-shirt suddenly becomes normally-proportioned in a button-down.

Factoring in Pritzker's views on Palestine and Israel, his letting ISP support ICE during the recent invasion, and his opposition to a large-corporation tax that would affect billionaires like himself — I don't think he's gonna cut it as prez.

On this day, we were introduced to 'Central OL', who was photographed on the front line in very nice workwear and shoes, wearing a not-cheap leather handbag. Absolute queen. You can understand why she inspired protest art!

Just a reminder that archive .is openly courts right-wing extremists to use their site to coordinate harassment campaigns and to filter any concerns about "preservation" accordingly
The FBI is trying to unmask the owner of infamous archiving site Archive.is, according to a subpoena the site posted. No other information given, the site quietly posted the document a few days ago. FBI telling domain registrar to hand over all sorts of ID'ing info

Rosalind Franklin died at 37 of ovarian cancer attributed to radiation exposure from the methods she & her assistant used to photograph a cross-section of the DNA double helix.

Meanwhile, Watson won a Nobel off that work & survived to the ripe old age of 97 by simply: stealing those notes!

Totally besides the point of this grim article, but I can't help but laugh at Brad Bird going to WB to bring Ray Gunn back from the dead, then Lasseter convinces Bird to direct it at Skydance instead, and then David Ellison supposedly wants to buy WB anyway.

The double splitscreen shot from 1:13-1:42 is one of the most insane shots created during the photochemical era.

You’ve got a real woman fondling Maroon and Valiant at both ends of the shot, with the woman’s body hidden by splitscreens that run along the edges of the fluted columns in the BG…

I *think* I spotted my first tropical orb weaver during a walk earlier this week. I'm not 100% though — my searching involved looking up "California spiders" and comparing my photo to whatever seemed to bear the closest resemblance.
