CSWEP strongly condemns Larry Summers’ behavior as revealed in the email correspondence with the late Jeffrey Epstein. While abuse of power in the economics profession is not new, rarely has the intent behind such abuse been so clearly stated.

Really think infotainers and pseuds and their editors who want to make positive spectacle and discourse out of an otherwise entirely banal ethical failing are revealing a deep anxiety towards the specter of meritocracy.
Nuzzi’s choice to sleep with powerful men to get ahead is grossly anti-feminist. It is more directly sexist and unethical to her *especially female* coworkers and industry peers & than mere sexist speech.

She didn’t just cheat her readers!

1st order: immigration is a human right & good for the US

2nd order: one could imagine it upsetting bigots

We really need to reject this thing where 1st order concerns are suppressed for second order political pseudoscience.

Because of the “pseudo-“ part, it reeks of bad faith (ie bigotry)
Obviously, we want more immigrants, it’s one of our founding principals, but we also don’t want things to happen that will set support for more immigration back in the long term

All that said, Twitter only allows editing in the 1st hour, so not easily done.

Beyond parliamentary and egalitarian reforms that can most-directly democratize representative government, press reform (it’s our domestic “military” against the lure of self-enslavement) and widespread deliberative policy juries can replace the ubiquitous role of public relations for the Republic.
"Democracy is dying in the West because it has been overtaken by a caste of professionals, politicians and technocrats, for whom democracy is a slogan, a contest, a source of legitimacy in an instrumental sense, but not an idea or ideal they respect or aspire to."

I went home to Southeast L.A. to cover the immigration raids there. And this week I've covered the raids in my adopted home of NC. Nothing--and I mean NOTHING--will give you hope like speaking to immigrant organizers and locals fighting back.

This week is Road Safety Week & a chance to talk about Barbara Castle!

Barbara was Transport Minister for three years yet she was able to introduce the Breathalyzer, a proper integrated transport strategy & more!

This was done despite fierce opposition.

New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

It takes a village.

There’s no cockroach without a cockroach infestation.

A grown ass man, a political leader behaving like this without sanction means that something beautiful has died inside the hearts of a whole ecosystem of strivers and elites.
I don't know why the "Piggy" thing is bothering me so much. It's one more unforgivable thing in a list of 20,000 unforgivable things, but I've been mad about it for like 12 straight hours.

Great news that the Senate has passed the bill forcing the DOJ to release its Epstein file. Now Bondi must comply. But our work cannot stop there. We need to force the Treasury to release the Epstein bank records too. I have a bill to make that happen. FOLLOW THE MONEY.

I really don’t get the newsworthiness of interviewing public figures. Period.

In a world where journalists would never consider the strategic utterances of pols of innate public interest, what is the case that they should be.

I honestly don’t get it.
as a reporter, the part of this that i’ve simply never understood is how the next person to ask a question when he does something like this doesn’t simply repeat the question that set him off. it’s not just solidarity with your colleague, it’s an important question that remains worth asking
I’m not going to pretend it’s easy to say something in the moment when you witness the president do this and you’re aboard Air Force One with all the uniformed officers and secret service and fancy wood accents, but this is really an instance where you should. people.com/donald-trump...
