The middle sentence of the collect for Agatha of Sicily slaps: “Grant us for the love of you to make no peace with oppression, to fear no adversity, and to have no tolerance for those who would use their power to abuse or exploit.”
Psalm 102 was a moment this morning: “He will look with favor on the prayer of the homeless; *
he will not despise their plea.
Let this be written for a future generation, *
so that a people yet unborn may praise the Lord.”

This is stupid, of course. But it’s also a religious claim. These guys are confecting a religion and I think it’s worth taking seriously as such. Unfortunately my dissertation involved this.🧵

Wait, Clement Clarke Moore, our GTS professor in the West Building wrote this and I have never heard about it?
learned recently that the guy who wrote "The Night Before Christmas," clement clarke moore, also wrote a takedown of thomas jefferson's proto-scientific racism in "Notes on the State of Virginia," basically accusing him and others of making it up to justify slavery. which, that's right.

Private universities taking race into account when granting admission: absolutely forbidden.

Armed government officers taking race into account in order to stop and detain you and make you justify your presence: totally fine.

Grateful to have the opportunity to sign on to this, along with my local Roman Catholic bishop
Oh: so you know that USCCB letter challenging the GOP-led budget bill?

It appears a group of Catholic bishops — including the Archbishop of Washington — wrote there *own* letter w/many other faith leaders that's MORE critical and straight-up asks Senators to vote against it.

This is very unusual!

Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake. Amen.
