the trailers for the electric state have all looked horrible but i'm morbidly curious to see how bad it is after seeing this on the movie's wikipedia page about how they russo's somehow didn't understand the story they bought the fucking rights to
from wiki: these major plot changes were explained at the film's panel, which involved anthony russo stating that they did find the original material as "fascinating" and compared their experience as similar to the marvel films. (highlighted text) but he also stated that it was difficult for them to understand the story and felt that the world was not shown enough through the graphic novel, which caused the idea of developing it into a two-hour film as challenging. this led to them using the artwork as inspiration to make an entirely new story that featured the usage of 1990s aesthetics and the plot addition of robotic animatronics developing artificial intelligence, which involved them campaigning for equal rights in a retro-futuristic society.

I cannot stress enough how much Electric State is the wrong book to adapt if this was all they wanted to do. This is literally a bunch of the concepts, visual and storytelling, from Stålenhag's other works, like Tales from the Loop and Tales from the Flood! Just adapt those!!

As someone who's enjoyed Simon Stålenhag's work for a really long time this is just staggeringly offensive.

The story of Electric State is not fucking difficult to understand you fucking dipshits! Sentient robots are even in some of Simon's other books!! Adapt them you assholes!
