as for the upshot of the decision, the republican court has put the citizen children of non-citizens in a position similar to that of free blacks during the antebellum period. their right to enjoy the privileges and immunities of american citizenship will vary according to state borders

No one to blame except the cowardly, sclerotic Democratic party. They knew the horrors of the Roberts Court and refused to act, depending instead on deteriorating institutions and disappearing norms. Pray we have one more shot at this.

Some legal analysts thought the Court would not be sympathetic to the Trump administration's arguments as it would reduce the power of the judiciary. They failed to understand that the Roberts Court's pattern of behavior is not seizing power for the judiciary, it's seizing power for itself.

This is going to reshape decades of civil rights litigation.
The Supreme Court's conservative supermajority just took away lower courts' single most powerful tool for reining in the Trump administration's lawless excesses, stripping them of authority to issue universal injunctions that block illegal policies nationwide. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...

Zohran is clearly a generational candidate but major props to his team who ran a nearly flawless campaign. Thinking a lot about the video he put out after the Nov 2024 election where he talked to Trump voters in NYC. It put him on the map when so many Dems were looking for voters to blame.

this and PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE EXIT POLLLSSSSSSS!!!! if anything turnout numbers are a better indicator if the electorate is favorable for a certain candidate but exit polls are notoriously inaccurate!!!!!!!!
You’re not a real elections junkie unless:
-you know all the E-Day anecdata and exit polls are useless
-you’re desperately looking for them anyway

New York City canners—many of them immigrants and people of color—help keep millions of containers out of landfills. Their work keeps the country’s largest city cleaner, yet their contributions remain largely unrecognized. My latest for @prismreports.org
For New York canners, a dime could make all the difference
The deposit on a bottle remains just 5 cents. The “Bottle Bill” could change working and living conditions for canners

NYC Comptroller Brad Lander was just arrested by Trump’s ICE agents because he asked to see a judicial warrant.

This is fascism and all New Yorkers must speak in one voice. Release him now.
Here's a longer video of Brad Lander's detention just now inside 26 Federal Plaza as he tried to walk a man out of immigration court, by masked federal agents.

In the NYC mayor’s race, the NY Times stuck to its new no endorsement policy but selected an “opinion panel” which last week recommended Brad Lander and today published a long, discursive “advice” essay that undermines Lander, dismisses Mamdani completely and grudgingly boosts Cuomo.

we’ve gotten this kind of Q a lot and here’s what I can say [mini 🧵 incoming]

ideally, it is always best to fill all five ballot slots with candidates because that will ensure you have a voice — and your ballot is not ‘exhausted’ — if there are many rounds of tallying

however!!! …
NYC people who understand ranked-choice voting better than me: is it important to rank a full slate of 5 folks so as to avoid Cuomo, or is it OK to just rank, like, 3 people?

But the polling is wildly on Dem's side on this one! Opponents of what the Trump admin is doing with him outnumber supporters 2-1!
