Well, I’m on the academic job market! I’m looking for professorships and other postdoc positions. My academic interests are nebular abundances, galactic evolution, HII regions, etc.

I’m happy to talk to anyone who wants more info and knows some jobs that are open! (Here or in any other country!)
Always interesting when a referee's comment causes you to pull out Osterbrock!

Submitted two job apps, called it a day, and came home to play some RuneScape before trivia night with friends. I’d call that a good day!

Watch closely and see how this mysterious supermassive black hole changes over time.

It turns out astropy has perfectly good photometry tools and I should have definitely been using those instead of my own clunked together code. My fits make much more sense suddenly!

If your beliefs deny the right of others to exist, then those are not beliefs of good people.

It is not “indoctrination” to mention that others may not be in the gender binary. It IS indoctrination to say you can’t teach that and students can’t learn that.

Shame on President Welsh.
A professor at Texas A&M taught… something related to gender that offended a student, who secretly filmed herself objecting. That video is picked up by TX legislators, who demand her firing, and now the dean and dept head have been fired.

A&M Dean removed following student complaints over curriculum
The Department of Justice has also acknowledged the situation and said it would be investigating.

A week or so ago, I watched this video and I have not stopped thinking about it. How nice it would be to get rid of my iPhone and get a landline and transition away from being constantly available. It sounds so nice.

This diagram is excellent and 100000% correct.
Possible causes of your problems. It’s a diagram that (sadly) still seems relevant in 2025, so reposting a year and a bit on.

And that proposal was just accepted!!! Hell yeah!
Just submitted my first observing proposal for director’s time! Here’s hoping!

once again reminded how much the grad school experience is shaped by your phd supervisor, and thanking the universe for my mentors. If I can do for my students what my advisor did for me, I’ll call myself a success 🙏🏽

I found a new set of lyrics that resonates with me:

"Even when you're out of work you still have a job to do
Even when you don't know what it is
Your job knows what it is
What it is is it's coming to get you
I'm talking to myself even when I'm saying 'you'"

I will never forgive Apple for getting rid of their headphone jack and giving the wired headphones a lightning cable end. More than ever people seem to use their phones without headphones to watch videos on the subway and you cannot convince me that change isn’t partly responsible.

This is not the quality of pseudoscience infotainment to which I have grown accustomed

My very first undergrad presented the research that we worked on for the past year! I'm so proud of Liv and all of the work that she's put into this project, especially over the summer. Any future undergrads have some big shoes to fill! (And keep an eye out for the Research Note we'll publish soon!)

There is a massive opportunity here but only if we can maintain and build momentum; we cannot let off the gas on this, not even a little
Couple things I learned today:
- Seniors are extremely fired up about this
- "Fuck ICE" is a normie position now
- People are MASSIVELY pissed off about Sen. Padilla being wrestled to the ground in LA
- We all we got, we all we need
