hello everyone, I'm Gina (they/them), a PhD student at CMU working on binary black hole mergers (specifically from a computational perspective: trying to get our modeled populations to line up with our observed population)

I just read the story this op-ed is based on and it’s depressing. I had no idea that Canada was getting hit harder by the measles outbreak than the US.

i think if you want to have those disgusting LED headlights on your car, you should have to do a test where they blast you point blank with your own headlights and then you have 15 seconds to successfully complete some sort of vision-based task, and if you can't do it they push your car off a cliff

spent a while scratching my head this afternoon about a plot i made that wasnt matching my expectations and fearing it broke my entire paper's thesis only to realize half an hour later that it was because i had plotted the wrong thing
every time the papers write “new discovery, astrophysicists don’t know what’s going on” they’re talking specifically about me

Why am I so against generative AI in games?
Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

nothing like being real excited about submitting soon only to find that its not actually happening and bc of conference scheduling might be pushed to after the new year 🫠 i scheduled a really long trip to visit my brother for winter break this year in anticipation of being freed from this paper too

you are outsourcing your job to a thing that doesnt even do it well and your students are worse for it
