hello everyone, I'm Gina (they/them), a PhD student at CMU working on binary black hole mergers (specifically from a computational perspective: trying to get our modeled populations to line up with our observed population)

generally interested in black holes and binaries and stellar evolution :)
picked up one of those pig shaped custard buns and someone said they for the kids and the adult custard buns were just the plain round ones

oh my god i love being on holiday but i miss my kitchen
After the unexpected and crazy result of yesterday’s cooking post, I thought I’d share my brunch using the leftover homemade English Muffins.

A potato rosti, bacon, egg, mascarpone and chilli jam, muffin butty! 🤤

I set up a GoFundMe for former @pghcitypaper.com staff. This will be used to help us submit last year's stories for awards, defray loss of income and insurance, and support laid-off single moms with childcare. Chip in if you'd like:

having this problem with wired 💀 got that $5 for a year sub last feb and after multiple emails asking how to cancel before i get charged again, they have told me a) my account doesn't exist b) i dont have a subscription linked to my account c) i will be charged for the annual sub in a few weeks
i think it should be illegal for the boston globe to allow me to sign up for an subscription online but then make me call and speak with multiple people just to cancel the subscription.

I’m at Times Square, where an emergency “No War On Venezuela” protest just took to the street. Easily a thousand people here in real-feel 20°F weather.

“No more coups, no more wars, Venezuela’s not yours!”

“No boots on the ground no bombs in the air, U.S. out of everywhere!”

its been on my tbr for a while but my friend was saying almost exactly this about 4 days ago so its been bumped up to "going to place a hold at the library as soon as i get back home"
THE RAVEN SCHOLAR has me in an absolute chokehold, what an incredibly well-paced jewel of a book, I love the feeling of looking at the 400 remaining pages & feeling the anticipatory loss of it coming to an end

wait kidnapping a president?
We live in a world where the US just manages to follow one horror with another. Child abuse. Sex crimes. ICE kidnapping. Invasion of a country and strikes on populated civilian areas, kidnapping a president. And there are nukes under command of those in power, and they are rash enough.
call me crazy but it really feels like “World’s Richest Man Creates AI Chatbot That Generates Child Porn” would’ve been a huge international outrage requiring a governmental crackdown not even 24 months ago

speaking of which i heard on the radio someone said mamdani is nyc's first democratic socialist mayor?? did nobody working the news follow his damn scavenger hunt
this is the most incredible interview i’ve ever read. the aei guy tries so hard to get sliwa to trash mamdani and he simply won’t. he also brings up flaco (rip) unprompted.

i am going to publish my first paper and i am going to get my hair dyed in celebration i am manifesting it ✨
Give yourself something to look forward to next year. Something less substantial than a resolution which can carry regret if you can't stick to it. Think of a book you want to read, a genre of music you'd like to learn more about, a curiosity to chase no matter how trivial. Keep your spark lit.
