They're also flummoxed when I point out my 81%-for-Trump county hasn't gone D since 1934, and lots of folks here vote R for the same reason they cheer for Ohio State football - it's what's done and no matter what you don't cheer for Michigan. We have MAGA dickheads, but it's not the whole story.

I wish reporters and Dems would ask ,"what do you mean by DEI specifically" or some variation of the "I'm confused can you explain the joke" thing people do when someone tells a bigoted joke.
I think it would better, instead of adopting the MAGA framing, to call out specifically what they are saying. They are not blaming “DEI.” They are blaming Blacks, other minorities, women, and people with disabilities. It’s called scapegoating.
