your reposts, comments and likes transform directly into donations so i'm asking you to help me boost the fundraiser i'm quoting.
In this critical moment donations have completely stopped, and the fundraiser to help Ukraine with engineering equipment is stuck at $100,500/$120,000.

I'm asking you to support by reposting, hitting like, donating and commenting

#dkpol

Two hard realities persist: The US won't risk war with Russia over Ukraine, and Europeans won't act without the US. This makes any security guarantee fundamentally less credible, regardless of Paris talk details.

After the Cold War, the US itself closed or sharply downsized many military facilities in Greenland, including Sondrestrom Air Base and early-warning radar sites. Denmark remained a loyal ally, and did not object to US presence. Claims of Danish security neglect are fallacious.

It's just a very odd newscycle when Europeans are working alongside America to offer security guarantees in Ukraine while also wondering if America is going to invade Greenland. The whole thing makes no sense.

True European solidarity with Greenland and Denmark would mean a joint military presence, not just letters of support. The U.S. would still win if push came to shove, but the whole idea would be far more unpalatable to the American public. It will never happen, of course. But one can dream.

Few thoughts on the Greenland saga, summarized in a short thread. Some of these points have already sparked debate on X, but after Miller’s speech, I am even more convinced. 🧵Thread

1/ First and foremost, Denmark is not only a member of the EU, but also a founding member of NATO.

That said. Denmark should send forces there and us Nordic allies should join them. In this world it's either stand together or be ruled by dictators. Even if they get ordered to stand down and surrender when the fighting starts it shows that we will not be divided.

Maybe the greatest example of the bizarro world in which we now live is that European states are maintaining the dangerous fiction that the US would fight for them, when the more likely use of US military force would be to kick Europe out of Greenland.

The fact that European states would simply roll over and accept a US seizure of Greenland (and they would), shows how little they have adjusted to the new world.

The truth of the matter is that it was never NATO that was “brain dead”. It was Europe. We have been in a coma for decades.

TAPPER: Can you rule out the US is going to take Greenland by force?

MILLER: Greenland should be part of the US. By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? The US is the power of NATO

T: So force is on the table?

M: Nobody is gonna fight the US militarily over future of Greenland

It's wild that the PM of a NATO member feels compelled to put out a statement like this vis-à-vis the US government.

It is incredibly embarrassing for this continent that Sanchez has to join a group of Latin American leaders in issuing a statement of condemnation for the US invasion, because no other leader in Europe will join him in criticising 🇺🇸.
