steam is apparently allowing "this game had AI in it that it didn't disclose" as a valid return statement, so if you or anyone you know actually paid $70 for slop, get that money back

Just finished Kathy Rain! I had started it years ago but for some reason didn't pursue it to the end. What a wonderful game, it hooked me right from the start with its melancholic atmosphere and delightfully sharp protagonist.

Now to replay Syberia and Syberia 2!

A great one from @dreamcastaway.bsky.social about enjoying (or not enjoying) a game on its own terms, rather than what we wished it was instead.

I'm a "metroidbrainia" defender, but I agree with this thesis. These games don't all belong in the same bag, and the more granular the genres can get, the easier it'll be to find and make more!

Humanity is so bad at genre names, though. Books have an entire category just called "fiction" ffs

The Good Doctor is bang on here.

Voice actors add whole new dimensions of meaning and emotion to your words. The first time I heard someone read my stuff in a booth, it was an out of body experience. It taught me so much more about writing. It taught me the power of voice. AI will never have that.
If your game has voice acting, then working with the voice actors is half of your writing process. It's not complete until you've heard it interpreted and reimagined by a voice actor. And they always reimagine it in ways that elevate the writing, in ways you never would have imagined yourself.
