Is scientific reticence hindering climate understanding?
The bulk of climate research has tended to underplay worst-case scenarios, preferring cautious projections and scholarly reticence. This reticence is clearly displayed in the work of the IPCC, which c...

⚠️ The gas grid death spiral in action.

As more homes electrify, gas demand falls. Prices rise. Disconnect fees go up. Fewer customers = higher costs for those left behind.

Frank Energy just quit NZ’s residential gas market — a textbook case.

'Death spiral' for gas: Frank Energy turns off switch
A gas retailer will stop supplying customers next year, amid what Consumer NZ says could be the start of the end.

Did you know how much of the power generation capacity added each year world-wide was in renewables?

2022 it was 80 %
2023 it was 86 %
2024 it was 92,5 %

Not because the whole world suddenly turned „woke“, but because it’s the cheapest!

Yesterday I went to Franz Josef - and the glacier I walked up to about 16 years ago is, um, gone. Can’t even SEE it from the walkway.
As far as situations go, this seems far from ideal.

A useful thread from Doug highlighting key examples of three of the UK's most powerful media brands - Sun, Telegraph, Daily Mail - continuing to parrot fossil fuel industry disinformation.
Weekend story was saving Scunthorpe steelworks - UK's last virgin steel smelting plant

Challenged for years by cheap imports from Asia where energy & labour cost are lower

There's been a concerted but **erroneous** attempt to link that to net zero efforts

More fossil fuels = more climate change. It's that simple.

We have to get out of the fossil fuel doom loop. Please tell the government not to approve any new oil and gas in the north sea 👇

Tell the UK: No new oil and gas
The UK government has paused making decisions on new oil and gas in the North Sea while it examines how to regulate new drilling. And it’s asking the public for our views.

Boris Johnson promised farmers that “subsidies would stay - 100% guaranteed”.

🚜 The National Farmers’ Union council was overwhelmingly in support of “Remain”, but decided not to campaign outright, as it would upset some of their larger farmers who were cheering Brexit.
What happened to those post-Brexit farm subsidies?
We need a discussion about UK food and farming, our resilience to external and self-inflicted events, and where the money is going

We all think plastic pollution is a problem, and it is. In the nearly 70 years between 1950 and 2019, the world produced a total of ~9.5 billion tonnes of plastic.

But all the plastic we have EVER produced weighs as much as CO₂ we emitted into the atmosphere during the first three months of 2024!
