Fundamentally, it's criticism declaring its autonomy. A well-written critique which lays out its case using all the tools of the trade, arriving at a logically coherent conclusion, should not be a priori refuted by an annoyed author taking five seconds of their precious time to say "no it isn't"
A lot of people still don't know what the fuck death of the author means and it drives me nuts, it's literary analysis 101. It's an essay on interpretation being distinct from the creator and has nothing to do with trying to excuse yourself for liking media by billionaire nazi whackos
