Moving my personal social media account here and to Insta, because Facebook's algorithms are honestly lacking these days.

It's quiet still; I haven't unpacked my metaphorical boxes yet.
I've started trying to do some basic Duolingo to wake up my brain. (I make no promises of how long this will last.) Does anyone here use Duolingo? My username is BjornGlas.

-I read some godawful things& some fantastic things.
-I tried Kindle Unlimited's free trial; unimpressed

Cautiously optimistic. We need to still press our countries to demand a complete ceasefire and bring aid for the people of Gaza.

Google is turning off uBlock Origin support in Chrome next year.

For this reason (any a thousand others), may I recommend that you use Safari or Firefox as browser, both have great adblocking support and other privacy features.

(Do not use Brave, it's made by homophobes and Nazis).

The arts and humanities are being systematically dismantled at a time when society is entering multiple dire crises and radical shifts. We need the arts and entertainment more than ever to process and bring meaning through unstable times.
Rather sadly - my first post on here is to let anyone who will listen know that English/Creative Writing at Oxford Brookes is facing massive redundancies - 40% of staff to be culled by January including my own role. Please share and support, we are trying to save our livelihoods #SaveBrookesEnglish

A Mayan scribe (right) and his instructor (left) – the dots and lines between them form an early speech-bubble, and it's thought the glyphs refer to sloppy work.

So here we have a 1,500yo cartoon of a writer getting a bollocking from his boss!

Ever since we did the class project on Egypt, there's been one grave in the churchyard the children call the 'Moss Mummy'. The Rector has complained to the school that the children keep leaving offerings to it. Personally, I don't see the problem with that. – Joanne Vickers, 1982

Rare footage of my previous landlord uncovered.

(Just kidding; he never set foot in the place, used it as a front for money laundering, and continued to collect rent after selling it to another landlord who then went bankrupt. 🥰)

Pretty difficult to appeal this Facebook post removal, when I have literally no idea what was removed. No indication of even a time frame of when posted. Cybersecurity...? 😅

Well okay then. Thanks Facebook, for looking out.

Often, I feel that Facebook adverts know nothing about my life. But sometimes, they hit alarmingly close to the bone...

I mean I couldn't walk in these, but look at them. So weird. So rainbow. So blue-and-fluffy-clouds. Perfect.

Here's a question for the #writers out there - but also, for anyone with functioning sinuses.

I can smell imminent frost and snow. It has a scent, or at least my nose parses it as a scent.

Is this a common thing? I often get confused responses if I mention it.

I keep trying to explain to people that if you are an American and 40 years old and have a million dollars in the bank, you are one medical emergency away from being destitute.

Even if you have "good insurance."

And people tell me to stop trying to get sympathy for the wealthy.
