Just got told I'm not allowed to use an e-book in the pool viewing area while my child had a swimming lesson... because it's an electronic device... 🙄

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap

‘Brexit is a tragedy and it will be reversed.’ 💥

#Heseltine is the best political communicator by a long way.

His emphatic call for rejoining the EU cuts through the noise, grounded in truth, while the counterarguments cling to a dwindling minority of Brexit believers.

I think of the older women in Belfast arrested for Palestine shirts and stickers every time I pass the UVF billboard on the Donegall Road, which is several times a week
Drove past a load of loyalist terrorist organisation flags as I listen to the UK Home Secretary say support for outlawed organisations won't be tolerated 🤡

What might come as a surprise is that I don't have strong opinions on any of these things. At the end of the day, the government is accountable to the people. And it's up to the people to decide on tradeoffs between safety, security, and freedom. But I do have strong opinions on exceptionalism. 1/?
Someone is currently arguing with me that the UK is a surveillance state because it has lots of security cameras, and the US isn't because it doesn't. So, since I'm going to have to explain constitutional law anyway, I may as well just give a free lecture on how the 4th amendment really works: 🧵 1/?

You will note how some proscribed groups are violently suppressed by the state with definitions broad enough to encompass pensioners and disabled people holding signs, while other proscribed groups are apparently free to operate in the open and ‘have a word with themselves’ over assaulting women.

Didn't this happen at every school? I recall friends breaking software, guessing passwords, finding exploits...
Also, if people still have guess able passwords these days...
"almost a third of the breaches... by guessing passwords or stealing details from teachers."

Old Soviet joke for today:

A man walks into a newsstand every day, looks around, and leaves.

After a long time of this, the owner says “Can I help you find something?”

“I’m looking for the obituaries.”

“The obituaries are in the back of the newspaper, comrade.”

“Not the one I’m looking for.”

I am sickened by the relentless demonisation of refugees.

No refugee underfunded a school.

No refugee closed a hospital.

No refugee took away support from the sick and disabled.

We need solutions not scapegoats. Stop blaming refugees and tax the rich instead!

Fucked around, found out. Have at it, every author in the class action.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

The overwhelming majority of offenders are British-born. Overwhelmingly the victim is someone known to them, either a partner or relative.

Anybody purporting to care about protecting women might start there.
