We are losing the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which has helped educate, inform, and entertain millions of Americans.

Instead, we’re getting a vulgar new gold ballroom, which none of us will ever see.

I'm a city person and I'm proud of it.
I like to visit international cities on vacation and people-watch.
When I retire, I will likely retire to an urban area with lots of cool, multicultural things to do on my doorstep.

Hey folks.
Mentors matter.
SO much.
If you’re lucky enough to find 1, let them kno what they mean to you.

Now.
Cuz someday you won’t be able to.
In 1 case, I missed my chance.
I hope I made it thru to someone days ago.

Mentors are unselfish, generous, & think beyond themselves.

Thank them for it

Say what you will about people calling their Senators newly horrifed to demand action, that's at least a theory of politics with a clear mechanism for change and a clear way to organize neighbors, unlike smugly posting that the American project was always fascist & asking why anyone is surprised.

We’re only two months in, & they’re cancelling research into pediatric brain cancer. They’re deporting US kids with brain cancer. They’re putting millions at risk of malaria, TB, & polio.

I for one will never forgive or forget those who said ‘it won’t be that bad’.

CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up.

Tomorrow is the cloture vote.

KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️

Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill.

Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.

As predicted, women in New Hampshire had a hard time voting yesterday because of the new proof of citizenship law:

“It doesn’t have my married name on it,” she said. Town voting officials then sent her away a second time, to get her marriage certificate.

NH’s new ID requirements send some would-be voters home to grab passports, birth certificates
The law requires all new voters to show proof of their U.S. citizenship. For some, that meant making multiple trips to and from the polls before finally casting a ballot on Tuesday.

Obama and Biden may think they are honoring the office of the presidency by keeping quiet at a moment like this — if so that’s just preening vanity — they owe it to the office and to the Republic that until last month it served to speak up loudly and clearly and without relent.

Arizona AG Kris Mayes, New Mexico AG Raul Torrez, and Oregon AG Dan Rayfield will begin holding Community Impact Hearings — a national series of townhalls "to hear from the public about the impact of federal firings and DOGE funding freezes across the country."

The first will be in Phoenix March 5.

This is for the men.

When you see women being dragged out of a town hall by men with no uniforms, no badges…

THAT IS YOUR TIME TO STEP Tip chairs.
Stick out a leg.
Drop something in the way.
Start a brawl.

All day the men are online saying they are here to protect women.

This is a scene straight out of the Handmaids Tale, brought to you by a “Town Hall” in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. Again, a woman with more courage than any man in that room. Disgusted.

if nothing else I hope this era finally makes clear that government is a SERVICE, not a business. everything isn't designed to make money.
I will never forgive the people who bought into the "government should be run like a business" bullshit.

Democratic leaders:

I think it's abundantly clear at this point that simply going along to get along ain't gonna work. Trying to negotiate ain't gonna work. Being collegial ain't gonna work. What you're doing right now isn't working.

Take your gloves off and punch back. Hard.

From the bottom of my heart, I believe that we can be better than this.

(Low bar, I realize, but still.)

We can embrace diversity.
We foster equity.
We can be inclusive.

As a historian, I believe in change.

And as low as I sometimes feel right now, I —WE—are not defeated.
