No one before Sam successfully raised a child, which is why the human species went extinct in Mesopotamia. Seriously, the best way to read this is that countless billions of humans did just fine but Sam is not as competent and self-reliant as them, and that's what AI wants us to be: dependent.
Jimmy Fallon: "And do you use ChatGPT when raising your baby?"

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

The Boston Globe identified the companies in Massachusetts that employ the most SNAP recipients. A key stat: "In Massachusetts, 74% of working-age recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are employed, half of them full-time."

Ken’s work is never perfect but I appreciate that this is not hours of founding father glazing. He keeps coming back to the rhetoric of white colonists invoking the language of unjust devotion to the crown well being committed to chattel slavery.

Me about to piss off a bunch of capitalists: If Bezos doesn’t want to pay his fair share in corporate taxes, I don’t see why we shouldn’t nationalise Amazon and make it a subsidiary of the post office.

Massive shoutout out to whoever handles the Royal Canadian Air Force’s social media account. They responded to every single comment on their already very solid Trans Day of Remembrance post and they responded like this…

Watched a couple fun romcoms last night on Prime, went to buy DVDs, and of course because both were Amazon Studios, Bezos won't let me own a physical copy.

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

PSA to @libbyapp.com users: you can and should back up your data. Otherwise your app might crash out of nowhere, delete all of your data, and you’ll lose the TBR list you’ve accumulated over years.

Advice (and/or book recommendations) welcome 😭 😭 😭

Wikipedia: "Remigration is a far-right European concept of ethnic cleansing via the mass deportation...of non-white immigrants, usually including their descendants who were born in Europe, to their place of racial ancestry, often with no regard for their citizenship or legal status."
SCOOP: The State Department's new reorganization plan includes the opening of an "Office for Remigration," a term popularized by far right extremists and neo-Nazis in Europe. The office will coordinate directly with DHS "to advance the President’s immigration agenda."

My report:
State Department set to launch ‘Office of Remigration’
The concept of remigration has explicitly neo-Nazi roots and has been popularized in Europe.

i keep seeing people say that LLMs are good at search.

NO. WRONG.

You have just forgotten how good search used to be.

Google broke it's own flagship product, and so you are accepting a demented chatbot's half baked gishgallop because we no longer have functional web search.

A timely quote from Dr. Carla Hayden: “Libraries are a cornerstone of democracy—where information is free and equally available to everyone. People tend to take that for granted, and they don’t realize what is at stake when that is put at risk.”

Let’s be clear. When the President defies the Supreme Court, it is the role of Congress to remove him from office. Full stop.

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.

Thinking about how I grew up watching Mary Poppins not having a clue what the song Fidelity Fiduciary Bank was about but just kinda accepting that as part of the experience. There were so many moments in kids media like this and in retrospect, I think this is good for kids.

Abolish ICE. The system has been operating like this for25 years, flourishing under democratic presidents too. There is no end to the inhumanity. There is no reform. The image of a woman’s daughter protesting outside a facility for her release breaks my heart.

Seems to me what we’re seeing across the federal government are the dividends being paid from years of adopting market language to talk about public goods. Run government like a business? Businesses exist to make profit. Government exists to serve the people. We’re about to see the difference now.

Historian here:

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
