love never trots away it is energy that changes but wont disappear. remember this when a buckaroo takes that trip on the lonesome train. the love is still here in every little thing (the time the space the light) permeating this timeline until finding another form to say hello in

Playing Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. It's fascinating how timely it is, possibly more so now than the original was in 1997. Corporate evil, class war, government corruption, existential environmental crisis, all surrounded by intense new ethics (and lack thereof) as human knowledge expands.

Arts and crafts have proved so fulfilling to me on a spiritual level in recent years that it feels like something I should have expected, especially as aligned to Athena as I am. I'm finally learning to think of myself as an artist, and it's life changing.

The failures of public health policy are matched in tandem with confusing, inconsistent, and inaccurate public health messaging/comms -- which was all rolled out at the same time as a president using the bully pulpit to spread active disinformation, followed disinformation campaigns from bad actors.

Deadline for public comment ends tomorrow. Please tell the CDC that we need vaccine access for everyone, not just a small sliver of the population.

The pandemic is not over, and public health requirements don't magically disappear simply because it would be politically more expedient.
Tell the CDC all ages need updated vaccine access
The CDC is accepting public comment on the updated COVID boosters through Friday, September 8

This is absolutely unconscionable.
CDC: 15% of all US adults have/had Long Covid.

The current US adult population is 332,031,554.

15% of 332,031,554 is 49,804,733.

No cure, no treatment, no prevention, no safety net, and no idea what it does long term.

More about feeds: feeds look for terms or keywords (or emoji). Some feeds, like the Horror feed shown below, tell you how to "tag" your posts to be included, for others, like the Comics feed, you have to do a little detective works to see what terms appear over and over (comics, manga, etc)

Life hack: add disability symbol keychains to the wrist loops of hiking poles to identify them as mobility aids rather than sports equipment.

“Recovery is extremely rare in the first 2 years, posing a major challenge to healthcare systems.”

Maybe assuming it’s okay for *absolutely everyone* to be infected w/ a new disease that (unpredictably) in a small percent of cases results in as-yet incurable long-term disability wasn’t a great plan

Lot of conversation about antisemitism this week so just a gentle reminder that we don’t hyphenate the word, because it implies there is such a thing as a “Semitic” race (there isn’t, there’s only Semitic language) - and implying there is a Jewish race is of course deadly for the Jews. More info:

The Kids Online Safety Act, aimed at protecting children from harmful online content, has been endorsed by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, as well as by President Joe Biden.

BlueSky has time still to determine what its culture will be. Maybe "not full of assholes" could be part of that? (I'd also like a pony and a bridge with a view.)

Autistic play doesn’t look like non-autistic play, and that is different, not wrong or deficient. Solo play can be restorative, parallel play is a form of engagement, and playing with other autistics is often preferred. More excellent participatory research from Autism in Adulthood,

"What does a wheelchair need with hiking poles?" he asks.
"Thanks for asking," I say, lighting up like it's Xmas morning. "I love educating folks about my mobility aids!"
He backs away, realizing he's gotten more than he bargained for.

Works every time.

Don't mock Sen. Mitch McConnell for being disabled. Should we identify him as a hypocrite for taking advantage of medical opportunities he would deny millions of others? Of course. Should we demand he (and others) step down if they can't perform their duties? Of course. No ableism needed for that.

As someone who is both a classicist and a Hellenic pagan, this is something I've sometimes struggled to articulate.

It is a disservice to our students, to neglect to teach that myth was and is part of a rich and complex set of religious beliefs, in addition to being a fertile literary resource.

The "Kids Online Safety Act" is a dangerous bill with potential for misuse limiting personal expression and identity. It also places kids in danger as much as (to be fair) it establishes needed protections. Enforcement possibilities are troubling, and advocates are already open about anti-LGBTQ use.

My thought here is that money doesn't buy happiness, it buys *margin*: The ability to deal with the shit the world just throws at you. If you have no margin, life is extremely stressful. With margin, you can deal. Lack of stress is not happiness, but it leaves more emotional space *for* happiness.
