Playing Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis. It's fascinating how timely it is, possibly more so now than the original was in 1997. Corporate evil, class war, government corruption, existential environmental crisis, all surrounded by intense new ethics (and lack thereof) as human knowledge expands.

Arts and crafts have proved so fulfilling to me on a spiritual level in recent years that it feels like something I should have expected, especially as aligned to Athena as I am. I'm finally learning to think of myself as an artist, and it's life changing.

Lot of conversation about antisemitism this week so just a gentle reminder that we don’t hyphenate the word, because it implies there is such a thing as a “Semitic” race (there isn’t, there’s only Semitic language) - and implying there is a Jewish race is of course deadly for the Jews. More info:

Don't mock Sen. Mitch McConnell for being disabled. Should we identify him as a hypocrite for taking advantage of medical opportunities he would deny millions of others? Of course. Should we demand he (and others) step down if they can't perform their duties? Of course. No ableism needed for that.

As someone who is both a classicist and a Hellenic pagan, this is something I've sometimes struggled to articulate.
It is a disservice to our students, to neglect to teach that myth was and is part of a rich and complex set of religious beliefs, in addition to being a fertile literary resource.

The "Kids Online Safety Act" is a dangerous bill with potential for misuse limiting personal expression and identity. It also places kids in danger as much as (to be fair) it establishes needed protections. Enforcement possibilities are troubling, and advocates are already open about anti-LGBTQ use.

My thought here is that money doesn't buy happiness, it buys *margin*: The ability to deal with the shit the world just throws at you. If you have no margin, life is extremely stressful. With margin, you can deal. Lack of stress is not happiness, but it leaves more emotional space *for* happiness.
