I make a monthly donation to this organisation (not as much as I’d like sadly), because books were my solace, escape and refuge during difficult circumstances in my youth. If you can throw a few quid their way each month, it really does help many children find comfort. 📚
My little girls (now big girls!), adopted from foster care, arrived with few possessions - but each had been given a box of books by @booktrust.org.uk. These books, read together, became our first shared memories.
Spread the joy of reading with a donation:

Hmmm - so tacking hard right on immigration led the Danish equivalent of Labour to lose the capital city for the first time in a century to a “Green-Left” party?

And all the seats on London’s borough councils are up next May? Including the progressive packed ones held by Labour for generations?

Compare and contrast the Government language.

£3,750 EV grant on a £35k car: ‘helping families’.

Cycle to Work: ‘subsidising leisure’.

And yet cycling delivers TEN TIMES the impact of electric cars for reaching net zero. It’s almost like narrative, not data, is driving policy.

Have also read @sathnam.bsky.social’s Empire books which give good background. I had not realised organised large-scale slavery started so early. Knew a girl on jury at Bristol Colston statue trial - said Olusoga’s defence speech in support of 3 arrested made her cry. They were acquitted.
Me too. I read Empireland and Empireworld by @sathnam.bsky.social - also recommended - but seeing some of the places really helped my understanding of our colonial history. Using young people from immigrant backgrounds to relate their experiences was effective, too.
