This is a really important find - unique in fact. It has slight similarities to a torc from Moulsford (in Reading Museum) but apart from that it's a totally new type. 🧵

Concepción Mendizábal Mendoza. 1st woman in #Mexico to earn #CivilEngineering degree. Studied @ Palacio de Minería engineering school graduated 1927 & passed her professional engineers exam #OTD 11 Feb 1930. Mathematician Sofya Kovalevskaya was the first woman to:

+ Earn a doctorate in #mathematics (in the modern sense)
+ Be appointed to a full professorship in mathematics

She was also one of the first women to work for a scientific journal as an editor. She died #OTD in 1891.
