many churches during allhallowtide will remember & celebrate the "faithful departed", but i feel it important to note that those who are un-faithful, by choice or chance, can never stray irreversibly far from the love of God which draws them close, and meets us all at the end of our earthly lives.

Without asylum:

Marks and Spencer wouldn't exist

Queen would have been without a front man

The other queen wouldn't have had a husband

Judith Kerr would never have written The Tiger Who Came to Tea

And thousands of less famous people wouldn't have been teachers, politicians, neighbours, etc

Absolutely right, Ed. For the vast majority, this government is markedly worse than the last.

Personally, my experience of this government compared to the last one is things are getting noticeably worse (and more right wing) in multiple ways. I'm not aware of anything that's getting better.

Two years ago, I wrote this about how the COP climate summits are designed to fail, and how they could be designed to succeed. Sadly, nothing has changed.

Cop28 is a farce rigged to fail, but there are other ways we can try to save the planet | George Monbiot
Inaction and self-interest are built into climate summits. Instead, we need a voting system that can’t be subverted by fossil fuel producers, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

As a Safety manager in the NHS, Labour is most likely making me redundant, and I could lose my house. Making NHS patients less safe in the process.

How are Labour policies changing your life?

Eight child abusers were jailed today.
8 child sexual predators who had been operating in areas such as Gravesend, Gillingham, Swanley, & Margate jailed for a combined 100 years.
This managed not to be the top story on repeat for BBC, itv or sky News.

I wonder why.

The government has STILL not cleared out the highly partisan decision-makers imposed on the BBC by the Tories. Starmer and co are so amazingly spineless and feeble.

the only conspiracy theory i actually believe with all of my heart is that the gunpowder plot was made up as a false flag to persecute catholics. either way, the fact that every year on this day we burn an effigy to an obvious scapegoat is a bit rank and very silly.

actually war crimes and torture are bad and we shouldn’t rehabilitate people after their death 👍

It’s All Souls, and a good time to remember that God became a human being and lived, died, descended into Hell and rose again for love of us, and there is no place in this world or out of it where Our Lord will not seek and find the ones whom he loves.

Overall social media use is declining.

Between 2020 and 2024, more Americans — especially the youngest (18–24) and oldest (65+) — report using no social media at all.

A small group of heavy users remains, but the middle is thinning out.

Look, a Reform MP saying black people in adverts drive her mad is very bad.

The Shadow Home Secretary refusing to condemn this because it reflects "legitimate concerns about...immigration" is arguably worse, because it's:

A) a real party
B) a shadow minister
C) he's been in parliament since 2015!

You're right. But shamefully you & the Labour govt aren't a bulwark against it. Instead you've opened the door & emboldened the racists.

it’s starting to become clear that zarah sultana’s main priority at the moment is lying about the green party to justify the existence of another left wing party in the UK. it’s really disappointing and smacks of young labour careerism.
