The entire right-wing propaganda machine came after Zohran Mamdani.

The president and his allies came after him.

Democratic leaders, by and large, did not have his back until the last minute.

He still won, turning out historic numbers and inspiring young voters.

His politics can win anywhere.

“Federal prosecutors in D.C. have been instructed not to seek felony charges against people who are carrying rifles or shotguns in [DC], regardless of the strength of the evidence, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro and an email reviewed by [WaPo].” www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...
Pirro’s office won’t pursue gun charges over carrying rifles, shotguns
A statement from Pirro on Tuesday said D.C.’s blanket prohibition on carrying shotguns or rifles “is clearly a violation of the Supreme Court’s holdings.”

It’s almost like Americans were never fundamentally, inevitably “anti-immigration” and Democrats never had to just put their hands up and meekly chase Republicans (and lose), and affirm all their anti-immigrant positions that helped get us here at all!
Wow — New Gallup poll:

— Trump approval on immigration: 35-62 (!)

— Record high approval of immigration (79-17 overall)

— 78% of people support a pathway to citizenship (+8 from 2024); only 38% support mass deportation (-9 from 2024)

— 30% want a decrease in immigration (-25 from 2024)

That’s it.

seems to me the basic error these centrists are making is that they are playing on enemy turf, rather than trying to raise the salience of issues that favor them
it's still wild to me that so many centrists want to triangulate on social issues when half the reason 2024 fundamentals were what they were was the economy

I wonder what Mike Johnson would do if he was, say, driving down the interstate and got pulled over by an unmarked car.

And then a couple of big guys hiding their faces behind masks and wearing no badges or other ID demanded that he exit the vehicle.
MIKE JOHNSON: From the people who mandated mask wearing for years, it's absurd. They need to back off ICE & respect our agents

Q: So you're ok w/agents not identifying themselves when they're arresting migrants?

J: Why, so they can target them? So they can put names and faces online and dox them?

what is fascinating to me is the number of people whose “knowledge” of government appears to just be an accumulation of cliches and stereotypes + an inchoate sense that if something is big and costly then it must necessarily be “wasteful”
Interesting piece which reveals a lot of the tech bro ignorance of government: DOGEr comes in, expects to find lots of inefficiency, is at least willing to acknowledge he was wrong unlike the hard core ideologues.

As some Democrats vocally push for the release of the man the administration says was mistakenly deported, others have sought to steer clear and focus on high prices and economic issues.
