My latest investigation goes deep on what it takes to support the expansion of Belize's marine protected areas as part of the 2021 Blue Bond. It looks at the work and innovations taking place as the country aims to protect 30% by 2026.

doing community organizing can be such a brutal task sometimes. you volunteer your time freely and people still demand more and more without ever giving thanks for what you've done. it doesn't matter that you get nothing out of it, for some people your best is never enough

“...MPAs co-managers have to date received over BZD $7 million of the BZD $26 million approved for distribution, just over a ¼ of all funds distributed by the Belize Fund..."

To learn more about why MPAs have received 26% of the money to support Belize's Blue Bond goals, read the story at the link.

What’s draining tax dollars isn’t SNAP, it’s corporate welfare and billionaire tax breaks.

FACT: Even people working two jobs still need SNAP.

Where’s the outrage about that?!

The image of the US as a beacon of democracy and freedom was always a myth but this video shows how quickly people will normalize the kidnapping of others because intervening would be inconvenient.

Mustn’t miss one’s flight.
I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.

I was using #facebook for marketing research for my day job when I got a request to submit a video to prove I’m human.

With m reluctance, I went through with it so I can finish my work. now Meta is telling me they gotta review the info.

AI sucks. Corporate control of social media too

So glad for felled-Martin getting all this love. I first read her writing in the intro for mirror mirror 2. It led me to her film criticism (the Akira essay being one of my favorites), and now she’s writing acclaimed novels. On top of all that, she curates the best online biweekly film club.

Pete Buttigieg endorses aid restrictions to Israel, Seth Moulton is running away from AIPAC at full speed, Mallory McMorrow says it's a genocide, meanwhile Cory Booker says that asking if Netanyahu is a war criminal is unfair.

What the hell is happening? I take a stab at it in the piece below.
Democrats Are Getting a Brutal Lesson in How Much the Politics on Israel Have Changed
From Pete Buttigieg to Gavin Newsom, party bigwigs are finding out the hard way that the old platitudes don’t work anymore.

I have to stress how highly unusual it is for the most powerful military on the planet to be blowing up random boats in international waters.

I can’t help but feel that several criminal charges will ultimately come from these strikes.

It makes far more sense to interdict them.

US imports tonnes of fish from the Caribbean and Central/South America. Do they think people will continue to risk their lives to fish as these extrajudicial murders continue?

This is not normal. Our region doesn’t deserve this, especially at a time when climate change is harming our frontlines.

I asked a source for an upcoming story who was benefiting from a recent program for frontline communities. He replied saying one of the major hotels in the old capital. I wake up today to read of another ‘workshop’ that took place there. Those $5 Johnny cakes won’t eat themselves.
