Housing targets “a distraction.”

From what, they do not say.

There has been an alarming drop in the level of rthetorical structure in state housing strategy.

2016: Rebuilding Ireland. Five pillars.

2021. Housing for All. Four pillars.

2025. Delivering Homes, Building Communities. Two pillars.

If this trend continues we'll be out of pillars by 2029.
At the launch of the long awaited housing plan this morning - Minister for Housing James Browne says the scale of homes needed is now far beyond previous estimates.

He says the new plan is built around two pillars: supporting people and activating supply.

"How many years would it take to set that up?" asks guest host Fionnán Sheahan.

What a fascinating worldview he has. Bedsit ban "folly". Rent control a "disaster". But somehow he expects young folk to queue up for machine guns with a view to lying down in a ditch to die for Ireland while he and the other non-military-aged men so vocal on this keep counting the pence.

There is quite a simple answer here. A public register of local property tax valuations. These can be used as an asking price. Any significant variance between ratable valuation and its sales price can be recovered at the same time as stamp duty.

How truthful are we when it comes to valuing our houses for the taxman?
Local politicians seem to be allergic to it and only ever use their discretion to keep it as low as possible

No need for a commute to get business done, Denis showed us the way to rise and grind in 2015.

Wake up (in Haiti). Get briefed in bed. Plan over breakfast. Immediately instruct your lawyers.

Get. It. Done. The Denis way.

Tim Davie was one of the best D-Gs the BBC has had, and Deborah Turness was a brilliant head of news. Only the BBC’s enemies could possibly be glad they’ve resigned. We’ve now got a real fight on our hands to defend public service broadcasting, because that’s under threat too.

The Government's new stated aim is to make it so unattractive for lawyers to take good cases against the State that they will stop. Not bad cases. Good ones. Successful ones. This new rule only applies if you *win* your case. Doesn't that worry anyone slightly?

Spotted this homeless camp of around a dozen tents being removed from the banks of the Grand Canal by what looked like a Waterways Ireland crew on Friday. International rugby at the Aviva today, of course.

Strike is of course a verb all by itself. I've always wondered how and indeed why the news media has always buried it in the back of overlong headlines as an adverb -- less active, less potent, less dangerous.

"Meat plant workers strike" -- four words and done.

There's a conspiracy theory that the person who set fire to the Ipas centre was a resident because he was "in his socks" but the video shows them wearing runners with white soles.

It's desperate this has to be debunked but someone even posted this to Facebook to try to help the idiots understand:
