I wanted to share this because it shows that we can enjoy the delicious holiday food without having to be very concerned of gaining weight or feeling guilty because 1 meal doesn't define one's health. so one can stay connected to his own diet and enjoy the holiday meal @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I want to repost this because it shows the lack of essential fibers and nutrients that the average population is not getting. This article shows the positive effect of adding canned beans to your diet and how it can increase your short handed nutrients. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This thanksgiving I was most looking forward to eating the turkey. I like the turkey because I think it is usually the healthiest option on the table and has the highest amount of protein per serving which fits into my diet the most. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This shows the reality of popular influencers who promote wrongful diets. Many influencers promote diets that go against current understanding of science and make nutrition seem oversimplified, the public should be careful of the false evidence thats being promoted. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I decided to repost this because it resonates with me because I personally have high LDL and these nutrients like omega-3 and unsaturated fats can help lower the LDL which promotes better heart health. So incorporating these into your diet is very beneficial @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

Tom made me realize that we can eat from fast food chains and still commit to weight loss when choosing the right items. I can teach my clients to commit to weight lost while eating tasting meals when they factor in exercise and cutting other unhealthy options like soda. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I wanted to repost this, as I felt it had to do a bit with what we learned this week. We should be treating all people with different body sizes with respect and dignity. We should be fighting against discrimination and learning to accept people as who they are. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353
I've seen a whole lot of content lately about people realising they aren't actually fat, that diet culture has just been lying to them. That's great for you all, but please remember what these declarations say to people who are actually fat.

Today I learned multiple factors like genetics and poverty, can contribute to obesity. As a future health professional, I will focus on empathy and supportive health goals and stay away from judgment, as it can cause a lot of harm and actually worsen a condition@beh353.bsky.social #beh353

This shows the importance of nutrition and collecting nutrition data. There are many diseases that put patients in the ICU, and their treatments include changes in diet. So data on nutrition should be documented with care so that we can benefit from AI to the full extent @beh353.bsky.social#beh353
AI models are only as good as the data that goes into them. Is #ICUNutrition behind by not having good documentation?

Nutrition interventions should be treated like medications - accountability for documentation.

Can we keep up with the times?

I relate to the lack of time in preparing healthy meals. When I have school, work, and research, I barely have time to cook a healthy meal, so I just rely on a quick meal. I am constantly choosing convenience over nutrition, which I am realizing is a bad decision. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I wanted to repost this article since it shows the benefits of seed oils, which contain omega-3 and other unsaturated fats that support your heart health and can lower bad cholesterol. However, using them in moderation is key since high amounts can lead to inflammation. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I read an article about vitamin water and how it has tons of vitamins B and C, which boost your body's energy, support the immune system, and are even essential to keep your cells healthy. However, getting your vitamins from natural fruit is always the better alternative. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I wanted to quote-post this because it shows the dangers associated with ready-to-eat products. They make them cheaper, but they come with great medical complications. This is why sticking to a healthy, homemade, fresh option is always on the better side. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

The Vogue article Fibermaxing promotes the incorporation of high fiber to your diet to help stabilize blood sugar and also benefit gut microbiome health. I researched the keto diet, and it is about reducing the amount of carbohydrates and increasing the amount of fat consumed to force your body into a metabolic state of ketosis. It basically tricks your body that you are in a starvation state and starts burning your fat. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

I am a person who cannot eat unmelted cheese because I do not like the taste. However, it was interesting to see that there is actual science behind why melted cheese tastes better. I wonder what are the aroma-flavored compounds that are released when it melts?
@beh353.bsky.social #behe353
Someone asked why melted cheese tastes so much better...I love these Qs, it's food science we take for granted!
Melting breaks down fats and proteins to release umami + aroma/flavour compounds. The gooey texture spreads to the tastebuds better + the Maillard reaction creates that toasty flavour.

I recorded everything I ate during the past 24 hours, and I think I was about 80% accurate because it was hard to keep track of everything, like sugar or creamer in the coffee. A fun fact I learned this week is that sugar is a simple carbohydrate that gives us no nutrients, but it does fill us with energy for our brain and muscles, which helps fuel daily activities. I also learned how fiber in fruit contributes to having no spikes in blood sugar
