Stunning night sky in the North Georgia mountains this weekend! Saw FIVE shooting stars! 💫☄️🌠

Can someone tell me, is that Saturn with rings?

We can debate all we want about the timing of nutrition in the ICU & I'm hopeful we are closer to a more definitive answer. However, I don't think we should ever dismiss the often under appreciated non-nutritive benefits of early EN. #ICUNutrition

More evidence that our overly restrictive hospital diets could actually be causing harm. There aren’t many interventions out there that can improve both clinical AND patient satisfaction outcomes quite like a cup of morning joe! ☕️

RCT: Patients with #AFib who continued their usual caffeinated coffee intake after cardioversion experienced less recurrence of AF or atrial flutter compared to those who abstained from coffee and caffeine.

Received an early birthday present from my dad in Tennessee: a jar of Sorghum and a Chocolate Gravy tshirt! 😍

Anyone ever had chocolate gravy with your breakfast? 😋

What factors do you consider when deciding to start enteral nutrition in critically ill patients?

🍎Nutrition status prior to ICU
🍎Hemodynamic stability
🍎Severity of illness
🍎Predicted ICU LOS
🍎Predicted survival
🍎Gut function
🍎Current LOS
🍎When the dietitian tells me to

❓What did I miss?

On a long drive, I listened to Dr. Attia’s Master Class. He really just covers what #dietitians & physicians have always recommended, nothing groundbreaking.

My 🚩 moment, though: while he lists #cancer as one of his “Four Horsemen,” fresh fruit & veggie consumption was never mentioned. 😕

Outpatient and/or cards #dietitians, what can you tell me about the Portfolio Diet?? First I’ve heard of it!

Check out this important information for clinicians and patients to know about home EN + meds!

When preparing pts for home EN, I always gave or recommended a 60cc syringe no matter what.

Medication doses and types should also be considered! You don’t need a 60cc syringe for a 1mL dose of meds 🥴

Absolutely terrible.
I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.

In <2 months our team of 4 #dietitians have placed 42 feeding tubes, several avoiding 🫁

Our numbers are increasing & the RDs continue to make a significant impact on patient experience, safety and outcomes!

Sharing this kickstarter from a friend. It’s a pilot for an animated series teaching public health concepts through a group of friends navigating the ups and downs of middle school life.

AI models are only as good as the data that goes into them. Is #ICUNutrition behind by not having good documentation?

Nutrition interventions should be treated like medications - accountability for documentation.

Can we keep up with the times?

AI tech can help improve patient engagement in their nutrition care. Again, not replacing the dietitian, but rather providing tools for the patient to take ownership of their care and provide data for a full assessment. #WhatRDsDo

As someone who rarely completes my medical check ins prior to appts, it’s strange to hear that physicians (or at least this physician) feel that is a strong indicator of patient engagement in care. 😕

The future I see for inpatient dietitians + AI is one where we can finally separate ourselves from the computer and spend more time at the bedside and with the patients who need us most. #WhatRDsDo #ICUNutrition
One thing I’m learning this week is AI is NOT taking our jobs.

Doing some stretch learning this week at Becker’s Healthcare IT Conference. We need more #dietitians in this space for sure! So many opportunities to improve outcomes (both clinical and financial) for our patients utilizing AI and other tech.

Sometimes I wish we would have chosen dietician and not dietitian.

#Dietitians placing feeding tubes with image guided tech have resulted in:

👉Fewer trips to IR
👉Fewer x-rays
👉Quicker time to initiate EN

I am so proud of our team!

#WhatRDsDo: Place Feeding Tubes!

This week, we learned about image-guided feeding tube placement!

Involving #dietitians lets nursing focus on ⬆️-level tasks while RDs practice at their full scope. Image-guided tubes are SAFER, but…
