The first thing you need to do if you want to be an ally to trans people is realize that transphobia is an almost entirely socially acceptable form of bigotry, to the point that even seeing it AS bigotry is controversial almost everywhere.

There are many places in the US I will miss, and would like to visit again someday, but the chances of returning, ever, are now next to none and that makes me sad.

This is how I feel about Utah. I fell in love with Southern Utah and then spent the last 6 years watching it grow crueler and more inaccessible to us. Realizing I might never see Zion National Park again has been one of the more heartbreaking things of this country’s turn towards fascism.
But this is all just paperwork. I feel myself already raw thinking of how they will be navigating the public spaces once they are here. I have only been here a few years and I can already see how much crueler this city and state has gotten. I honestly worry about what they will walk into.
