This 'cult of the operator' appears, to me at least, wholly unsuited for modern warfare, in which victory depends primarily on the depth of your political will, the effectiveness of your logistics, the advancement of your technology and most of all the raw quantity of steel you can put in the air.

he fact that actual modern warfare is an intensely technical bureaucratic endeavor always chafes a certain kind of person, and it’s been so long that the United States has been even threatened by the prospect of fighting a near peer professional military we have the luxury of pretending otherwise
