Like I’ve said before. Dissemination of fandom across social media platforms has turned fans into consumers.

That’s all they know. Not how to make or participate in fandom, just consume.

When you have no relationship with or respect for creators you see no difference between them and AI. 🤷🏽‍♀️

"do audio books count??" what are you even talking about. count for what. read books with your eyes or listen to them, who is keeping score. enjoy a great story, entertain yourself, feel inspired, pass the time. art is not meant to be a competition with an imaginary score-keeper.

Not every plot point is a trope. "Pregnancy" isn't a trope. "Secret baby" is a trope.

Brought to you by a very loud and annoying conversation happening in the bookstore right now.

I think the daylong boycott is a cute, universal good, smart even.

But what makes boycotts STICK is a continuous effort to support alternatives and not just for 24hrs.

Its not a boycott if you shop at Target tomorrow.

Check your library's Libby. That's how I read it recently.
You don't seem to be able to buy or borrow this digitally anymore. You can get it used from:

Thriftbooks, ebay, AbeBooks, Alibiris, and Amazon.
In season five, we did a deep dive into Tracy MacNish's STEALING MIDNIGHT.

It is the full banana! 🍌🍌🍌

We talk about bodysnatchers, about science, about dukes in disguise, about twins, and about why historical romance is unmatched.

Hoopla ftw 😌
I haven’t read this book but it’s apparently about a geek who grows up to be a cowboy AND THEN A VAMPIRE who’s also a “sex machine” (the book’s words) and now his geeky friend wants sex lessons. Romance plots are the best, I will not be taking questions at this time.

wild to be browsing library ebooks and see 2012 contemporary romance covers with photographs of partially undressed people embracing in an obviously sexual manner. those used to be standard! horny book, horny cover! now they seem so rare. one of many ways we've gone wrong as a society

I should also note for the many people who loved our wonderful Petra Mayer that the first Petra Mayer Memorial Fellow at NPR, Dhanika Pineda, worked on this year’s edition.

Goodreads is owned by Jeff Bezos. A better alternative is StoryGraph, a Black woman-owned platform. And before y’all start, you can transfer all your Goodreads data to Storygraph so you literally have no excuse.

Just a reminder to support your local public libraries! Write letters of support. Use the library often & in many different ways. Show up to meetings.

Library staff have been begging for help, advocacy, and action for years. Please show up for libraries.

The hero(?) on the cover of this Gothic romance is SENDING ME. The cuffs, the necklace, the mask, the fact that he looks like he's about to do lip trills. I want an action figure of this man, my god. 😂

DARK CARNIVAL, by Maysie Greig (originally 1950, but this reprint 1970). #romancelandia
