it is somewhat humbling to finish reading an afterword where the author talks about how her novel was inspired by the majesty of nature during a roadtrip into the deserts of oregon or whatever and then return to my story with such questions as "is this too much like the curse zones in okami"

rereading the earthsea books lately. forgot about the scene in wizard where ged is trying to save a dying child via magic and it's like "here's what it looked like to the people watching: he raised his staff and kicked up a cloud of dust and when it cleared the child was dead on the pavement"
