Penguin Random House emailed me last night because their ebook team was going through the citations on TRUE BELIEVER and found like 40 URLs that no longer went anywhere

I had to correct them, and luckily most were caught by the Wayback Machine, but some are just… gone

Gmail has AI options that are enabled by default, to turn it off:

Click on the Gear Icon in the upper right
General Tab, scroll down to "Smart Features" and UNCHECK THE BOX
Right below that is Google Workspace smart features > "Manage Workspace Smart Features" and make sure both toggles are OFF

If you have a copy of Let This Radicalize You, please note that there are appendices in the back of the book that include instructions for treating pepper spray and tear gas exposure and advice from a movement lawyer about what to do when the feds come knocking. Relevant advice in these times.

The irony here is that academics don’t just write the articles for free—we also referee and edit for them for free. Something is deeply broken.

BREAKING: After months of stonewalling by Starbucks, unionized baristas just voted 92% to authorize a ULP strike unless Starbucks finalizes fair contracts & stops union busting.

If forced, our baristas will strike in dozens of cities on November 13 – the company's busiest sales day of the year.
Starbucks unionized workers say they'll strike on Nov. 13 if coffee giant doesn't finalize contract
Union members say they are ready to strike on the chain's Red Cup Day if Starbucks doesn't finalize a contract with their union by then.

this is a good description of the current problem with GenAI

although calling it "an FAQ" hurts me to my core, please stop

sounds like it's about time to make that revenue number go down again
Tesla has total assets of 122 billion. It has total revenue of 97 billion. It has operating income of 7.1 billion.

It has "market value" of one trillion based on, a lot of excitable and not accurate estimates about how the company will perform. It's in the process of losing the EV battle.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Folks, if you are hungry, please contact your local Sikh gurdwara. Or just show up for langar, which most gurdwaras do several times a week, for a free meal. Lots also do weekly or monthly drives giving out groceries.

No conversion necessary. Feeding anyone who is hungry is a key part of Sikhism.
A lady on TikTok has been calling churches pretending to be a mother with a baby who needs formula and several churches turned her away. But wouldn’t you know that when she called a Mosque (Islamic Center of Charlotte) they immediately said yes.
