We held a terrible racist referendum, which passed by a large majority, to strip children born in Ireland of their citizenship in order to do it.

At that point, Ireland became simply ungovernable for the British. There was nothing they could do to quell the revolutionary anger among the Irish people; Britain's loss in the revolution became a fait accompli and they agreed to peace talks a few months later.

Ireland has its problems politically but I'm glad we don't have a "poor wee veteran" narrative in our elections. It's so toxic.
I’m at a Nigel Farage/Reform event in London where they are launching “Veterans for Reform”. A perhaps obvious crossover but there’s a few hundred people here - a big political crowd to draw on a Monday morning.

It has also emerged that Sport Ireland, the State body responsible for funding and oversight of individual sports’ governing bodies, eventually suspended its funding for Rowing Ireland in July of 2024.

Nobody at the committee has yet observed that this was literally the month of the Paris Olympics.

Some Gardaí due to graduate from Templemore next week can’t enter service straight away… because they don’t have Garda vetting.

The process has been changed so that trainees are now vetted during college, not beforehand - but the new process seems to have hit some teething issues…
