There are no rules, but you break them at your peril.

You probably remember me from Twitch, Heyzap, EA, Deloitte, SDSU, or DVC. 🇦🇫

Prop 13 taxes is effectively an enormous tax on *change* - of use, of ownership, etc. it’s the ultimate conservative tax law and thus benefits the noble born landowners (especially since low rates can be inherited!)

The American approach to funding transit is just about annual subsidies from budget battles and farebox recovery, whereas we should transition to a more Asian and European approach where transit agencies get most of their revenue not from fares but from economic activity they own at their stops

Imagine… your children, at the tender age of 50, inherit their childhood home, and 5 other rental properties - since the Prop 19 housing crisis happened, they need to pay property taxes as if they were a transplant or immigrant on 5 of them!! Insane!!

Now they’ll have to sell them tax free instead!
Tricia says a boardmember wants to know Wahab's thoughts on Prop 19, which reformed Prop 13 by limiting the ability of people to inherit property tax benefits from parents or grandparents.

Santa Monica NIMBYs are very upset about this, and claim it impacts affordability bigly!

As we’ve learned from the Prop 13 1978 experience, people will never understand why everything is just worse
The world is going to spend the next 2-3 years routing around the U.S. and when quality of life declines many Americans are going to be puzzled about why everything is just worse.

The largest failures of Dem-run cities and states (and it *is* a large failure) are a failure to build new housing which has made them unaffordable and exploded homelessness because they are also mostly *extremely desirable places to live that have too many jobs.*

one of my iron clad beliefs is that there are very few actual “schemes” in the world. instead, there are just a lot of stupid, venal people and quite a few of them hold positions of real power and authority
"Corporate leadership is as stupid as everyone else and freaked out about viral shoplifting videos" isn't as exciting as "the pharmacies are doing fascist performance art so they can uh murder all poor people" but sometimes things really are just stupid
