HiRISE Image of Exocomet 3I/ATLAS!

On 2 October 2025, MRO turned away from Mars to image 3I/ATLAS, only the third interstellar object ever observed passing through our solar system!

Whoa, this looks so cool!
These are shells of dust coming off a pair of tightly bound stars, newly imaged by #JWST.

There is such beauty in the universe.

An incredible sight of the first New Glenn booster to successfully land! Named ‘Never Tell Me the Odds,’ it returns to Port Canaveral aboard the barge Jacklyn after a five-day journey.

What a phenomenal launch. Gorgeous views, booster successfully landed for the first time, and EscaPADE safely deployed! Once the GS1 is fully secured, it will take LPV1 "Jacklyn" about 4 days to return to Port. Meanwhile EscaPADE will head to L2, which will take a couple of weeks.

LANDED IT! That was crazy! Looked like it was going to miss, but slid back into the target and pretty much hovered to the deck and nailed it!

Seriously, this looks incredible when viewed using red-blue glasses!
HiRISE 3D: Double Impact Crater!

Glacier fill in two craters now separated, but looks like the flow went north at some point, and there is a suprising lack of erosion in some areas of the rim.

50 years ago today, #OTD in Weather History, on November 10, 1975, the Great Lake ore freighter SS EDMUND FITZGERALD was lost with all hands in a severe storm on Lake Superior.

So it is time for the annual reupping of my thread on her loss.

She is perhaps the best known shipwreck on the Great Lakes, and today we remember her loss. 1/

🚨Three Chinese astronauts couldn’t return to Earth after space junk hit their spacecraft. Scientists warn this could be just the first of more accidents caused by orbital debris.

The situation is concerning. “There are a lot of people up there,” one source told me.

Pretty unbelievable that after directly outlining a plan that in no uncertain terms wants to destroy NASA science that Isaacman got renominated today.

Actually knowing how the Trump administration has treated science elsewhere its fully believable.
