I've been diving into Robert E Howard's Conan stories. I knew a lot of of them were from the same publications as Lovecraft's work but I didn't realize how much Howard trafficked in some similarly flavored descriptions and prose at times. Better pacing though and with a pulse. I'm really digging it!

Avatar just generally exists in the space franchise movies existed in pre-internet: Most people just go see the movies when they come out, and a handful of diehards dig into lore stuff in their own isolated corner of the world. It's not _that_ dissimilar from Star Wars in the '80s.

the big existential stuff about consumer AI is important to keep yelling about, but an underrated argument against its proliferation is that it's starting to make simple, everyday things harder and more annoying (and it's gonna get worse)

"I finally had to admit that no matter how many times I reread the recipe and attempted to follow the instructions, it wasn't going to work. I was stumped," Brenda Goodman writes.

"Then it dawned on me: Could this recipe have been generated by AI? Had I been had?" https://cnn.it/3KPT5Kq

There should be a movie about a director and crew employed to make a biopic about band that is incredibly controlling of the film. Basically just fictionalized production of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Vaguely heard a Christmas song I didn't recognize in a store but couldn't make out the words to try to google it later. Then the next day I heard it again in the background of a family home video from 1992. It was Greg Lake's I Believe In Father Christmas. That song rules.

One film is a beautiful examination of the use of art while facing the realities of death and grief set in the beautiful natural landscape of England. The other film is Hamnet.

Feel like the Hamnet film ran headlong into the pitfalls that book deftly avoided.

I have a problem with this statement. If people “knew nothing”, why did they cut ties “before his crimes came to light”? Seems like an admission that many of them knew full well what was happening and did nothing, even if they wanted nothing to do with his sordid activities themselves.

Movie sequels should by law only be afforded the same budget ratio with their predecessors that the original Planet of the Apes films had. Go ahead make an 4th film of whatever series but you gotta figure out how to make it on 27% of what the series started with.
