Couldn’t agree more
This is all based on a fundamental misreading of foundational political science by political strategists. Elite cues matter! Messaging matters! Opinion leadership is a thing!
none of these people (inclusive of UK labour) seem to understand that voters want their leaders to *lead* them, not reflect their own ill thought preferences back at them

I say this as someone whose entire job is finding the narrow use cases in which AI is actually useful:

All the fear about AI, all the reluctance to adopt it, is entirely legitimate, and a product of the fact that it's been foisted on the public with no consideration of its negative externalities.
I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

A particularly good letter, this one, I would say, with an illuminating perspective on media, corruption and reform

Yes, half measures have a famously good track record of satisfying everyone!
Starmer putting his eggs in ‘reform ECHR’ basket has shades of Cameron’s ‘renegotiate EU membership’, and may end the same way

Sen. Eric Schmitt: "This is the language of a color revolution where you're calling on military men and women to disobey orders."

Hard not to see a symmetry between Trumps efforts to hand Ukraine to Russia while trying to grab Venezuela for himself. Spheres of influence.

We have got to make politics intellectual again. It is the only way that societies thrive is when politicians have the capability to actually think and reflect deeply:

Incredible example for anyone teaching how (not) to do anonymisation
Learned that an anonymous outside expert on submersibles did an interview with the OceanGate Titan investigation, and they released a transcript, with all the names redacted. The first line of his first answer? "I'm sure you're familiar with my film Titanic."

"...distorts how the rest of us make sense of the world."
Are a few people ruining the internet for the rest of us?
Why does the online world seem so toxic compared with normal life? Our research shows that a small number of divisive accounts could be responsible – and offers a way out
