Since January, Trump's Treasury has quietly gutted enforcement of the corporate alternative minimum tax — a huge boon for big business and wealthy investors.

Meanwhile, he's led an all-out assault on Medicaid, SNAP, and other programs that help the poor.

It’s like the Republicans are supposed to think that they’ve now done something right by not doing what is illegal in the first place.

This book is titled “Disabling Intelligences” for many reasons. First, because so-called “AI” is built from historical commitments to the excision of disability from the classification of humanity.

Chapter 2 is "A Taxonomy of AI: We're Wrong About What AI Is" and @fractalecho.bsky.social opens with six "types" of AI: automators, simulators, discriminators, predicators, amalgamators, and subjugators.

I can't wait to read it tomorrow (and their definition of AI)! Time for bed now though.

I'm introduced on page 10 to a new term, metaeugenics. Williams quotes one of their earlier papers to define and then contrast this concept with necropolitics, as this is an internalized collection of beliefs while necropolitics is an external regime/power structure (see Mbembé and Meintjes 2003).

This a big deal: "China’s carbon dioxide emissions have been flat or falling for 18 months"

China's economy has grown by ~5% in the last year, so this comprehensively debunks the idea (again) that emissions are tied to growth. So yes, faster progress needed, but this is how you turn the corner.

So he’s saying all the tariff money we took in is gone and we won’t be able to pay it back. There was always a possibility he could lose this lawsuit and have to refund the tariff money. We didn’t prepare for that possibility? He’s running the govt like he ran his casinos.

NEW: Dems easily flipped the sheriff's office in Pennsylvania's Bucks County, a big swing county in the Philly suburbs.

So? The incumbent GOP sheriff had contracted with ICE. His Dem challenger promised to end the contract.

Now he wants other swing-state Dems to look at his victory as a lesson:

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?
