Wait, what??!!
The Govt quietly announced a loosening of climate rules at 8pm last night:
- Decoupling the ETS from Paris
- Shifting ETS resets to every 2 years
- Delaying the public sector target by 25 years
- Removing CCC advice from *before* emission reductions plans:

This week, my health insurer (NIB) sent a letter saying they were moving to 20% co-pay, and removing some benefits within a month. Written like they were doing me a favour 🤦‍♀️

Seriously unhappy. Have other Aotearoa NZ health insurers started to do this too?

💯 this. Please.
Please don't do this. Critical public safety information must be accessible to everyone.

If you're talking to a reporter make sure AT THE START you know the status of the conversation.

eg: "Hi, happy to chat. Is this for a story? Are you looking for a comment on the record or is this just to help you understand the thing?"

Sort it.
Say it.
Before you see it (in print).

An OpenAI executive said GPT-5 found solutions to 10 "previously unsolved" math problems when in reality all it did was find online references to places where people had already solved them

‘call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure that causing an entire country to fear for its own safety if they don’t award you a Peace Prize kind of disqualifies you from ever getting a Peace Prize.’
Yup!
here's today's post: "let’s laugh at the sad loser who didn’t win the Nobel Peace Prize" — and let’s congratulate the woman who did.

One curious thing on this site about speaking out against the encroachment of LLMs is that inevitably you get accused of being anti-tech. I don’t hate technology. I’ve used machine learning in my own code before. But I also recognize that oligarchs are so hellbent on pushing this tech for a reason.

Lego, some of the greatest manufacturing ever… 💜Lego
won’t compromise on: mattress, appliances, house stuff generally - get high quality shit that lasts

also, lego bricks, the quality control is impeccable

will compromise: most foods are fine off-brand, but I will pay for real maple syrup, quality Parmesan cheese, and pesto (Rana)
here’s an interesting prompt: what are the things you’ll compromise on with regard to price, and what are the things you won’t?

LinkedIn is not worth the stress, time and energy.
Seriously irate with this platform. I created an account and started entering my personal details. Came back to it three weeks later AND THE BLOODY SITE WON'T LET ME IN.

It insists on me providing proof of identity from a government ID, yeah/nah...

we have gone from a world in which we were told not to cite wikipedia because it was unreliable to a world where wikipedia might be the only reliable source left on the internet and we all owe a lot to the pedantic nerds who got us there
for all people mock it wikipedia is genuinely one of the wonders of the modern world
