Excited to share some tips for writing about polls for anyone coming in cold to the subject!

(Pictured: a thing on which pollsters are probably not calling you these days).
exciting news: got to demonstrate real-life zeugma yesterday when I ran into a friend and then, promptly, ran into a light-post

people who dislike LA because they think a particular type of person lives there are making the same category mistake as people who think "Washington" is equivalent to "DC," except that the sheer vastness of LA makes it even more ridiculous

i see we're once again doing that thing of "this profile was clearly meant as a puff piece! oddly, somehow, nevertheless, *I* took away a deeply unflattering view of the subject from the quotes and details included. but the author didn't use the word 'bad' and perhaps others are less bright than me"

"let me write a wry quote-post indicating that this applies to me also," I thought, and I don't want to talk about how much subsequent time I spent trying to workshop the text of said post
look as someone who can be incapacitated for weeks by the fear that I put the wrong number of exclamation points into an email this has been a fascinating glimpse into a some brains that work extremely! differently! from! mine!

continually feel hashtag-blessed that I get to write about public opinion from a descriptive and not a prescriptive perspective

I like that this question starts “Ideally, if you had the opportunity” rather than pretend that tens of millions of people are actually planning to leave the country.

The trend here is remarkable, but will just note that this is the epitome of an expressive responding question -- answering yes is a way to signal profound dissatisfaction, not really a declaration of intention to move.
Record numbers of younger women want to leave the U.S.

Deep dive on voters Mamdani added to Democratic coalition — specifically those who didn't vote for Kamala Harris in '24

They are younger, more ethnically diverse, and less affluent than consistent voters, and they voted for somewhat distinct reasons

for the record I once wandered straight out of the secured section of the Kansas City airport during a layover because I was too laser-focused on obtaining a coffee to look at silly things like large signs, but I share that purely as a story of self deprecation

people appear to care a lot more than I do about this one way or the other, but my main question here is why is James Bond falling asleep in the shower
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."
