🟠to me the problem was more about being noncommittal like any chance they had to tell people what the multiverse saga was they blew it, they made it more complicated pivoted the actual stakes and confused how it worked while focusing on OTHER interfilm arcs like the skrulls or val Fontaine

Gamers have such incredibly unreasonable demands of indies it's sort of a wonder anything gets made at all.
I could never fault an indie dev for just wanting to withdraw entirely from public from what are deeply wild, unfair or aggressive demands on their passion projects from 'gamers'.

I didn't realize until recently that the original Game Boy came out in 1989 and wasn't succeeded by the Game Boy Color until goddamn 1998. That's roughly nine years of black and white portable gaming being the de facto standard!

The risks for this situation are everywhere, from not being able to reach someone if they need help to becoming constant prey for scammers. But also just in general so much of life is virtual these days, if you can't use a smart phone, you're locked out and isolated. It's just you and TV.

Another huge issue, and I don't think people even know this is a thing, is that just about everything is done with smart phones now. And many (most?) seniors literally cannot work their phones. Signing things, texting, dealing with spam and fraud or even using the basic functions? They're often lost

I don’t think companies, media, and gamers are ready for the shift that’s going to happen with average consumers. The wait to leap to next gen is going to be long and I can see mobile and cloud gaming getting a small spike. Consumers are going to go for cheaper alternatives.
