Dear community, last time you helped us reach lots of new BlueSky followers. Now that we see that there is an exodus on X, it is important that these people can also find us on BlueSky for all necessary updates about Ukraine.

Would you like to share this message, preferably with a quote? Thanks!

Previously, they always claimed that they were "striking only military targets." Now they openly state that they want to leave Ukraine without electricity, which is an absolute war crime. Is this what "Putin wants peace" looks like?

We have mums in Ukraine running Air Defence, some decorated by Zelensky himself. A few probably wouldn’t pass Hegseth’s ‘standards.’ Yet his army would be shredded by 19-year-old girls here who can drop Shaheds with the skill of a PlayStation controller. He’s stuck in the past.
Hegseth: "We unleash overwhelming and punishing violence on the enemy. We also don't fight with stupid rules of engagement. We untie the hands of our warfighters to intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies of our country. No more politically correct and overbearing rules of engagement."

Sad and depressing news (again) from Russia: the Golos network of independent election observers that has done invaluable work analyzing various Russian elections, is ceasing operations after its founder was sentenced to jail. A huge loss both for Russia and for researchers.

The return of 🧵s!

Each weekend during the summer, I'll post (exclusively on Bluesky) a 🧵 "lecture" that uses my @wpr.bsky.social column to teach about some international relations concept.

Let's start with what can learn in this week's column!
Russia and Ukraine Are Both Still in This War for the Long Haul
With Operation Spiderweb, Ukraine demonstrated it has a lot of fight left. All that means is that the war is set to rage on.

Excellente analyse et comparaisons historiques pertinentes pour mettre en évidence la différence entre « l’apparence » de la vertu et la « vertu réelle ».
There has been a lot of chatter today about Zelenskyy's meeting with Trump, some regarding this moment when White House correspondent Brian Glenn asked if the Ukrainian president plans to wear a suit. I want to address idea in this thread. 🧵

Some newspapers are acting as if they were solely a commercial enterprise, without the mission to uncover and report on the truth. It is us, the readers who have to make our judgment and use our critical thinking to understand the world. Sadly, the @nytimes.com has become a clickbait generator.
I’ve literally had to sit on my hands to hold back from calling out these two atrociously orientalist articles. But if stuff like this doesn’t get called out, reporters who appreciate nuanced (and informed!) reporting will struggle to push back when asked to frame stories in the same way.
